Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So it would appear Bayonetta 2 has flopped. We need to talk about it.

Which games do you prefer from Nintendo?

Old school games such as ... 187 29.78%

New mature games such as ... 214 34.08%

Yo Mama 225 35.83%

Total:626

But did it really flop though? A typical hack n slash budget is pretty small compared to other genres especially if you're reusing assets.

By using VGCharts Data we see that actually Bayo 2 is doing better in its first 8 weeks in the USA than Bayo 1 did on the PS3 or 360, in EU is barely lower than PS3 and 360, the only region its doing worse so far its JP.

Bayo1 (PS3)

133,598 (USA)
131,749 (EU)
199,305 (JP)
=
464,652

Bayo1 (360)

202,827 (USA)
134,897 (EU)
88,331 (JP)
=
426,055

Bayo 2 (WiiU)

253,029 (USA)
123,664 (EU)
54,688 (JP)
=
431,381

As we see, according to VGChartz, Bayonetta 2 first 8 weeks in the USA are better than Bayo1 had, its just almost 10k lower in EU and really low in JP, but by adding these 8 weeks, we see than its Actually outselling the 360 Bayo 1 version and only 30k behind the PS3 Bayo 1 version, (it was 50k at its first 7 weeks), take in mind the PS3 and 360 had a bigger install base when Bayo1 was released, around 33-35 million units, anyway this is using VGChartz data, the only people who know how much Bayo2 has sold so far its Nintendo, Sega or Platinum.

I guess we will have to wait until it reach the million copies sold to know if it was a success or not, again according to VGchartz it took 3 years for the PS3 version to reach that number.

For your other question it depends on the franchise, by taking Platinum and Sega again, Madworld life times sales are only being outsold by both version of Bayo 1 and the PS3 Metal Gear Rising game.

Nintendo should keep producing its own "Mature" games (whatever that means), the operation rainfall games were well received by critics and gamers, Xenoblade got an spiritual sequel/succesor, and i hope eventually the same thing happens with The Last Story or Pantora´s Tower, and there is still FE x SMT if that its still being developed.

Maybe 2-3 weeks too soon? Meh it will probably still look the same.

Basically, Nintendo fans need to stop pretending that doing mediocre or just not awful in sales translate into Nintendo doing fine, and Nintendo themselves need to stop pretending that not seeing any short amount of growth in the company is doing fine.

Has anyone ever describe you as....needy?

Almost all the recent Third Party Wii U games have flopped.

Bayonetta is around 500k
Watch Dogs Wii U hasn't passed 10k according to VGC
Lego Batman 3 hasn't even passed 20k Units accroding to VGC.
And Sonic Boom.......

Yeah only title that seems to have not flopped recently is Super Smash U, and I'll be honest, Sales for Smash for Wii U could have been better.

FTFY

CT wasn't a flop, it sold well and had a really low budget

Not really, but I can see what you mean, I think.

I'm now filled with determination.

If my vote counts for anything, I absolutely LOATH that thread title and was very glad when it went away.

What is considered to be a flop??? The Wii U so far has only sold about 8.2-8.5 million. That is from two years of being on the market. That seems like a flop right there. A game selling 500K from a console that only has 8.something million is not a flop in my opinion. That is around a 6% attach rate which really isn't bad. For X360 (84 mil) and PS3 (84 mil), selling over a million is considered a success and that is like a 1% attach rate! Bayonetta sold nearly 500K not including digital sales, so again what is considered a flop?

Did anyone really expect  it to sell all that well? It was a niche game on a niche console (no offense to the Wii U). It was destined to be doomed.

Everytime there's a thread like this there's someone that makes this exact statement. And there's always someone who shows them a good amound of threads with people being optimistic with their predictions about the sales. So to answer your question, yes, there are people who expected it to sell well.

I know that, I was hoping someone would link to a thread with Bayonetta predictions so I could see who overestimated. Let someone else do my work for me

Captain Toad, from what we know, sits at 100K in Japan, which is far from a flop.

Watch Dogs is at 40K, but I expected less.

You read Lego Batman 3 wrong. Let me correct it. Lego Batman 3 hasn't even passed 200k Units according to VGC

Sonic Boom is currently outpacing Lost World, which is sad. Sits at 110k
