Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So it would appear Bayonetta 2 has flopped. We need to talk about it.

Which games do you prefer from Nintendo?

Old school games such as ... 187 29.78%

New mature games such as ... 214 34.08%

Yo Mama 225 35.83%

Total:626

I don't see these thread titles anymore, so I decided to bring it back.

In any case, Bayo 2 seems to have sold about half a million from the VGC database, which isn't really that good for a title that had Nintendo's backing. It doesn't even appear as though Bayo 2 will even hit a million lifetime.

We already know Wii U has a small install base and Bayo 2 is a niche game. So let's focus on some other aspects:

What does this mean about the future of Bayonetta? Does this title prove the age old assumption of many people that Nintendo consoles will only sell old school Nintendo games such as Mario and Zelda? Can we still blame 3rd parties for not bringing mature games to Wii U when Nintendo themselves couldn't sell Bayo 2, a very mature title to their audience? Should Nintendo just focus on making more old school games and give up on a new mature venture?

Let's discuss.

Did anyone really expect  it to sell all that well? It was a niche game on a niche console (no offense to the Wii U). It was destined to be doomed.

Almost all the recent Wii U games have flopped.

Bayonetta is around 500k
Captain Toad has only sold like....200k Units? according to VGC.
Watch Dogs Wii U hasn't passed 10k according to VGC
Lego Batman 3 hasn't even passed 20k Units accroding to VGC.
And Sonic Boom.......

Yeah only title that seems to have not flopped recently is Super Smash U, and I'll be honest, Sales for Smash for Wii U could have been better.

Captain Toad has sold over 100k on Japan alone, the game will do fina, is a budget title after all.

Yeah My bad I saw the numbers wrong, any other numbers wrong too?

Considering wiius current amount of consoles sold to date, it was expected. Whats the budget for the game anyway?

I don't think Nintendo needs to give up on the mature ventures with games. Hell I'm on the "Mass Effect styled Star Fox bandwagon. Anyway I think it would be in their best interest for the Wii U to skip on any more of these kinds of things as it's a huge time and resource sink to little profit. It bodes well for PR, I suppose, that they've done this sort of thing, that they tried. But no more this gen.

If they can create a more appealing image for themselves(though I'm not sure what that would be specifically), if they can get some third parties on board with some unique games, perhaps they can do this sort of thing again. As for Bayo's future - it isn't looking bright but let's wait for some developer/publisher comments about the sales, etc.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

.... why is selling less than a mill considered a flop now?

Which "VGC" are u reading? lawl

Anyway, as for Bayonetta 2. I doubt the game requires too much to break even and its a good addition to Nintendo's library so even though it flopped in sales, I think both parties aren't really bumbed out about it but obviously, they would be a lot happier if it sold a lot more! As for the future of the franchise, obviously, someone will have to fund it that isn't Sega cause god knows they would rather make another shitty Sonic game than support something as epic as Bayonetta
