Nintendo will not launch a new HOME console in 2016. That would be a slap in the face for the loyal Nintendo fans who bought the Wii U. When Nintendos's new home console does comes out (2017 or 2018 the earliest) it should not be backwards compatible with the Wii U at all. They should drop the Wii association altogether when they release their new system. It should be an entirely new architecture that is capable of performing at least as good as a high end PC (not dual GPU high just whatever the performance is of a single high end GPU) in whatever year it is released. It is ok for them to make a system that is suitable for their own franchises but they should try not to alienate 3rd parties like they have been doing or else they will not survive to see another generation in gaming. The idea about being able to play the games from whatever their next portable system is, would be pretty cool too. Like Fusion suggests.
