I recently purchased a laptop with a nvidia 970m graphics card and decided to try out some of my more demanding games on it. I have spent all day yesterday trying to get dragon age inquisition to run. The game crashes immediately on startup. If after I turn the game on I immediately change to a different window I can see the game running fine in the background. Infact if I tab in and click a menu option and tab out immediately sometimes I can even navigate through the menu a little before it crashes.

I've spent all day yesterday trying to find some sort of fix to this problem and can't seem to find any information that has been able to fix my problem. Has anyone experienced this problem and found a fix?

Just a little side note holy shit is laptop gaming a chore. How do you guys do it? I mean I normally game on my desktop and very occasionally I get a game that I need to mess around with to get working. My experience with my laptop so far though is awful though. With nearly every demanding game I try I end up spending hours trying to find fixes to weird problems. Though so far Dragon Age inquisition is the first game I can't seem to play at all.

My laptop is a sager np8651 which has an i7-4710HQ and a Nvidia 970m graphics card.

But, I just bought an MSI with an 980 in it with 8gb of ram. I have had to do nothing at all to get any games to run. Sounds like you have either a major problem with your drivers or a memory problem of some kind.

Dragon Age Inquisition is a buggy mess on PC. They just released the patch 2 a few weeks ago and it made it worst. In order to get the game working well on laptops with Nvidia GPUs you'll have to downgrade your drivers to a version number I forget. I have the game running decently on my four year old laptop with a GPU designed for media more than gaming. I'd recommend downgrading the drivers. You can find which version works on EA's help forums.

Plus Dragon age is already bad optimised on full pc tower.

That is kind of bullshit these days. There are plenty of mobile gpus that run games fine because of advancements in mobile technology in general. That includes his GPU, which is comparable in power to the PS4's.

His CPU is overkill (although maybe not for Dragon Age, which seems to only run well on i7's.) 

My laptop seems to become emotionally traumatized from trying to run Chrome, so i doubt it :p

Thanks I will look into what drivers work best for Dragon Age. I also tried reinstalling dragon age inquisition without patch 2 since I got the physical discs of the game. But after I finished installing the game from the dics, origin said I need to update the game to play it. Might try this again while my internet connection is turned off and hopefully it won't make me update.

Try turning off the origin overlay too. That has helped a lot of people.  You can do it in the options in origin. 

You know pc gaming isn't just about cpu and gpu. It's also about temperature. How do you eliminate overheat for demanding game without burning some composant ? How do you evacuate the heat on a laptop ?

Dude the 980m is as strong as a desktop 970.  Drop this "Laptops can't game BS" because it isn't 2010 anymore.
