Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Any one playing it here?

I have been dying to play an MMO for a few years now, but cant find a good MMO. Last MMO I bought and played was Guild Wars 2; lets just say, that game was horrible. It had very good gameplay and PVP, but the PVE was repititive and u basically unlocked all skills from lvl 5. I never played WOW, actually. I want to, but buying all those expansions is going to be very expensive.

I am getting a PS4 soon and as many of you know FF14 is available on PS4. My current PC can run the game, but will suffer framerate drops in raids and stuff, so I thought about getting it on PS4. I have some questions that I am hoping somebody could answer.

1) How long does it take to reach lvl 50?

2) Can u tell me about the PVP Arenas?

3) END GAME CONTENT? I want an MMO to keep playing for a while. Maybe like a year or something.

4) Is it worth the 15$ monthly fee and will it always make me want to come back to it?

5) Does the game feel alive? I know there are 2.5 Million players, but is it easy to find dungeon/raid participants easily?

Dont really care about a lot of grinding or anything as long as the game is fun.

Please reply. Thanks in advance.

Hey. I'm currently playing on PS4 and have been playing for about a month and a half. My very first MMO.

Answers

1)It took me about a day short of a month to hit level 50. If I didn't work so much I could have shaved off possibly a week from this time.

2) I played 1 PvP match and it was pretty fun. I can't imagine it lasting though. There are a couple of game modes I haven't tried so this one's tough for me to answer as I didn't have the full experience.

3) After hitting the character level max of 50, I'm currently grinding item level (equivalent to light level in destiny). I've taken part in a few post game dungeons and raids, but the challenge isn't really there sadly. The problem for me was that I'm put in a team where the majority of players have completed the dungeon/raid a 100 times before, and also are geared well above the requirements for registering. This makes puzzle solving non existent and fights a joke : /. Sucks cuz I love a challenge.

4) Tough question. This depends on if you like MMOs. If I was planning on getting the platinum trophy (will take minimum of 6 months due to limitations the game puts on how many "allowances" you're granted per day) I wouldn't have gotten beyond the 30-day free trial.

5) Some dungeons and raids are more popular than others and you'll get queued in less than a couple minutes for those. There are some raids most deem worthless and I've experienced 200 min queue times as a tank, in order to find a team. You WILL have a shorter wait time for these if you play as a healer. Tanks are also high in demand but not as much as healers by far. DPS characters will wait the longest, usually.

As for whether the game is fun, that depends on you. Try the 30-day trial and you'll figure out much of what this game offers. If you're still unsure, pay for just one more month, regardless if you save some money on buying a bulky subscription. Personally, there are tons more games out there if I were looking for fun.

Thanks a lot of your answer I really appreciate it :D

The thing is I dont want to play it just for one month and move on.

1) 1 Month thats pretty good, but I think I might reach it earlier cuz I will play literally like 24/7 on Weekends.

2) Well hope its good

3) That sucks :( I also want a challenge, but I dont think thats something they can fix except by adding extra difficulty levels.

4) I am a big MMO fan, so I might be just fine.

5)I am so tired of creating a character, play for a month, and move on. Actually I have been thinking about a Healer :P My friend will join me and he is thinking about a Tank, so I guess we will find parties easily.

I'm playing since about 3 month and will try to answer your questions.

1) How long does it take to reach lvl 50?

I'm playing about ~2 hours every day in average and after around 75 days I'm level 42 with my main class. I also leveled a second class to level 30, a crafter at 40 and a gatherer at 28. I progress a bit slowly, but thinks like changing the colour of my chocobo, crafting new items and selling them on the market etc. make a lot of fun. I think when you try to level fast, you can reach level 50 in about 3-4 weeks.

2) Can u tell me about the PVP Arenas?

I just tried the 4 vs 4 Pvp. I'm not really into it, so someone else should help you out here.

3) END GAME CONTENT? I want an MMO to keep playing for a while. Maybe like a year or something.

There is a lot of endgame contend. I didn't reach level 50 yet, but what I could see at my free company, they are busy since month.

4) Is it worth the 15$ monthly fee and will it always make me want to come back to it?

It is. There are regular updates with new content und you get entertained quite well for your money.

5) Does the game feel alive? I know there are 2.5 Million players, but is it easy to find dungeon/raid participants easily?

You can see players at every region. There are no points with hundrets of players online, but as it is a huge world, there are several spots with smaller groups. So yes, it feels alive. As a tank or healer, you'll find a group for dungeons or raids nearly immediately. As a damage dealer, you wait between 15 und 45 minutes. Its much easier with a guild :)

I'm currently, on hiatus because of school but I still enjoy it, even if I have to pay for it.

1. It takes longest for your first class, both in how it feels and actually. Once you have you're first Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic class to level 50, you already know how to level up quickly, protip dungeons give best exp, and the gap between your highest level and the level your training increases the exp gain.

This if your leveling up an offensive class, leveling a craft/gather class (DOH/DOL) is almost a different game.

2. PVP is challenging, but that its because its a completely different game from the PVE, low level PVE is easy since everyone is a scrub, but the higher the level the more challenging it gets and the more participants there are.

3. End Game content is honestly where this game shines. Everything else is good, but part of me feels that when you hit level 50 is when the game really starts. Easily 3 years + of content.

4. It really depends on how you want to play it and your circumstances at the time. This is not a casual game, if you're thinking your gonna play this game a couple of hours, when you feel like it? No way. Let me repeat that, if you aren't planning to play the game regularly a week in a schedule, then it won't be worth it. I like the game to play it daily, but when I went back to school, that was impossible, and the sub I paid in Uni was a waste.

I recommend paying on a monthly basis, paying for the month, and then disconnecting my credit card, is how I do it.

5. Yes. That being said, dungeons run on an instantance + random matchmaking systems, so depending on your class and the popularity of the raid/dungeon you might be waiting for hours, luckily its a queue and you can do other things outside of a queue, but the system could use some work imo.

Its server dependent but Tanks actually have better queue times than healers, simply because there are more tanks than healers and its harder to tank correctly then heal correctly. But its only 1-2 second difference.

All mmos disapoint me.  Unfortunatley, FFXIV combat doesn't seem fun.
