I think the last point is true to some extent... Power does not sell consoles.

Yeah, but at the same time power does not stop consoles from selling either...

I would assume that it was price more than anything that determined that the most powerful console didn't win as I'd suspect that the most expensive console at launch hasn't won before either.  That still could change, but I find it much more logical to think that console price is a large determining factor in sales success rather than console "power"

Oh so you're still clinging on to your prediction of WiiU somehow making a comeback and overtaking PS4. With zero proof and logic behind the prediction of course (your estimates have been SO far out up until now).

The general public sure don't have a problem with the PS4 being powerful, look at how well it's selling.

PS4 has sold more right now than WiiU will lifetime, when this becomes ever more apparant you will never admit you were wrong about this or even touch on the subject.

Also a side note. You asked for the UNITY thread to be locked and you have been available this year, Mummel (fellow mod here) found your other forum accounts where you had plenty of time to post on forums.

Why outright lie like that?

So when is PS4 going to suddenly stop selling simply because it is the most powerful system on the market?

I'm sure he thinks PS4 will still get the 100m~ it's destined to get. But his WiiU prediction is 260 million.

You started off in an interesting way. But then you went with "Nintendo's way is the right one", "We shouldn't have options", "History is the answer to all", etc... What makes you say that PS4 won't sell more Lifetime? Not the price and games, but it's power? Give me a break.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

this would have been am awesome post and an even more awesome ongoing series if not for the heavy Nintendo bias. kinda makes every point you're trying to make predictable. oh, that last point, how could you possibly with a clear head soil put that up with what's clearly happening in the industry right now?

The first point is interesting, however would a secondary console by nature not also have less software sold on it per user? Meaning it may have a much bigger user base, but the software sales are much lower? Especially I don't think there are as many dual platform owners as you would think.

As for power selling consoles, generally the "winners" have been the most powerful hardware when they have launched. Being the most powerful system is not a guarantee of sales success as there is more than one factor at play, however it certainly doesn't harm things. You could argue that the Wii was the most powerful motion controlled home console when it launched ;)

PS2 was the most powerful system when it launched, also the only one with a built in DVD player.

PS1 and SNES were considered more powerful than their competition. Even if you can now provide scenarios where rivals were better.

No one on earth thought the ps1 was more powerful than the n64. Stop joking.

The games often looked better. That gives the impression of being more powerful.

It's actually just that the PS1 had much more versatile architechture meaning it was able to make certain genres look better. Not all games were huge open 3D worlds, which is what the N64 was designed around. Put a PS1 game in a corridor or whatever, and it was able to pull of perceivably equivalent visuals. I can't think of a racing game on the N64 that looked better than say Ridge Racer Type 4 (or even Gran Turismo) on the PS1. Games like WipeOut 2097 and Destruction Derby 2 also looked better than their N64 equivalents. Plenty of 60fps beat em ups on the PS1 too which looked silky smooth whilst most N64 beat em ups ran at half that.

This was why I said considered. If you think no one thought that, you clearly weren't in high school when both platforms were out. I was the N64 owner. OMG TEH KIDDEH!" was all I got. because the N64 didn't do "realistic" graphics. And yes, I know Goldeneye and Perfect Dark etc completely blow that argument, but it was still a commonly held belief. Perception is key.
