Forums - Nintendo Discussion - HD 3DS Game... What?

Last time I checked the 3DS was not an HD console/handheld.  Yet, for some reason, they are advertising the new Phoenix Wright Trilogy package as HD.  I saw the actual ads on crunchyroll yesterday, and the article below says the same thing.  False advertising much?

Loll, I guess its "HD" compared to the DS?

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

They do this on Vita all the time, they are HD versions downscaled for said platform. I guess what they are saying is indeed false but nobody has ever really complained all that much, mostly 3DS fans saying Vita isnt HD.
edit: please dont reply to me with fanboy wars bullshit, thats not what this thread is for

I've seen people say things along the lines of "it's better than 480 but not quite 720" when talking about the vita screen.  The best thing I can find on the resolution of the 3DS screen is from the Nintendo site:

  1. On the Nintendo 3DS XL, a widescreen display on the top screen shows800x240 pixel resolution, allocating 400 pixels for each eye to create the 3D effect. The bottom LCD touch screen operates at a resolution of320x240—with both screens capable of displaying a brilliant 16.77 million colors.
Based on that I gotta think they aren't using the same standards for resolution as the TV world, otherwise the 3DS is half as good as a standard def tv?  I get that the screen is small, but even then, come on now.  And then, if that is true, to call something HD?

Dibs on suing.

I never thought HD fully meant it had to be 720-1080p. I always thought High Definition just meant it looked better. That shows how much I know.

You might be right.  I would think though that since we look at HD as 720-1080 there can be an argument made that people are being misled.  When looking at TVs, I don't see anything that says "HD" without having a 720 or a 1080 call out on it.

It's a port of a mobile game that's actually in HD. They didn't bother to change the name.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Talking about resolution again... *sighs*
