Forums - Sales Discussion - Can PS4 break Wii's record of 231 consecutive weeks above 100k?

PS4 be beastin'?

Sure, why not? 115 58.38%

Wii's recordz are untouchable! 60 30.46%

Record will be broken by the Ouya anyway 22 11.17%

Total:197

Wii broke many records but this one is interesting.

Wii sold from its launch week 3rd Dec 2006 more than 100k units WW every week until it dipped slightly below in the week of 14th May 2011. That's a whooping consecutive 231 weeks.

After PS4's second week where it was slightly below 100k due to supply constraints it has never sold below 100k again. Will it be able to keep this up until the week of 28th April 2018? That's 176 weeks from the latest charts.

What sayeth thee?

Please don't nail me on the exact weeks and days. This is as accurate as it needs to be.

edit: for the sake of the argument let's pretend PS2 did 230 weeks :P

hmm... maybe. I'll say no, because i don't want it to.

Too hard to tell cause it be too early but it certainly wont be down in 2015 so just for the hell of it, sure why not

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I believe that it will get very close to the Wii's record.

If I learned anything from this forum then it's that it's never too early to make crazy predictions :)

It has the potential but probably won't. Can't really say.

I'm going to say no just to be on the safe side. But I hope it does break the record.

I don't see PS4 ever dropping below 100K, not until it stops getting supported by Sony, definitely not a single week next year, I think it's at least 2 years away from it's peak sales period too.
I think LordLichtenstein (not sure about spelling :O) made a thread about PS4 not selling less than 180K each week next year, I agree with it for the most part, except for maybe the first week of Jan, where there isn't much coming out, but the system has the official China launch in mid Jan, tonnes of new quality exclusives coming, GOW, GT, Uncharted, tonnes of new IPs we haven't even heard of yet, new games from old IPs, the possibility of games like Agent and TLG all of those games maybe dropping on PS4 in 2016 onwards that makes it almost impossible that the platform will drop below 100K.
I think as an absolute baseline for 2015 weeks the lowest it will go is 175K, once it hits it's stride after Jan and the big games start coming I'd be shocked if it went below 190K.

There are plenty of people on this forum who believe that PS4 sales will eclipse those of the Wii. And if Sony stays true to their tradition of late gen support, this could actually happen.

Sure, why not? I mean, even the PS3 had 196 consecutive weeks above 100k, and when it did drop it was after the PS4 announcement. It shouldn't be that hard for PS4.

PS4 will peak in 2016 at the earliest. 2017 (4th year) should still see similarly strong sales, and the real decline should start in 2018, but still above 1st year numbers.

The problem with Wii is that it peaked early and declined fast.
