To be honest I would somewhat agree with this statement. I mean PS4 was a rather cheap console from launch and the library was fairly impressive, I mean sure all these big games were poorly recieved but it didnt stop them from selling and selling hardware. |
1. Every PS home console has grown and peaked in its 3rd and 4th year while selling well after its successors are out
2. PS4 is still $150 more than PS3 was during the year he's talking about
3. PS4 has had cross gen games coming out offering far less incentive for 3rd party guys to upgrade. When COD, BF, and stuff like Destiny stop coming out for PS3 we'll see more PS3 and 360 owners upgrading to PS4 especially with its 3rd party superiority reputation.
4. The big first party stuff is really set to hit its stride. 2014 was a bad year by Sony standards (the effects of bringing out so much in 2013 for PS3). They still equalled or bettered their main competition in exclusives as listwar.com will show but in 2015 we'll see more PS+months like December for one and for two we've got the Order, Bloodborne, Ratchet, Uncharted among other smaller titles.
5. SCEA will most likely be more competitive next holidays after seeing the hit they took in marketshare and effectiveness of crazy bundles. Q4 was obviously their weakest area despite matching first party all year and having SOME bundles. I'm not saying they are going to go to MS lengths where they make the console worth about $200 in the bundles but they can go below $400 before Black Friday (they may well cut the price at least $50 in December as that would be normal for a PS console lifespan)
