Forums - Gaming Discussion - How can Nintendo expect to sell WiiU's when they are so damn overpriced??

Seriously I was just looking at Boxing Day deals on EB Games Australia's website and the WiiU has been in need of a big price drop for over a year now.
Firstly I have to say it has never recieved a price drop here ever, its still the same price it was at launch over 2 years ago. So anyway here is a compasrison of whats on offer at EB for Boxing Day

WiiU:
Wii U White Basic Pack - $297 was $348
Wii U Premium + Mario Kart 8 + Nintendo Land + Epic Mickey 2 - $429 (no price cut)

Xbox One:
Xbox One Assassin's Creed Console Bundle (ACIV & ACU) - $399 was $499 (only $388 at Big W)
Xbox One Console + 4 Games (ACIV, ACU, SO, MCC) - $449 was $499
Xbox One Console + Kinect + 7 Games (ACIV, ACU, SO, MCC, CoD AW, Forza 5, Dance Central) - $599 (no price cut)

PS4:
PlayStation 4 Console + 5 Games bundle* - $598 (no price cut)
Your choice of Black or White
Games are TLoU:R, DriveClub. LBP3, Watch Dogs (pre owned) and your choice of NBA 2K15, Mordor, FIFA 15, GTAV or FC4.
PlayStation 4 Console + 6 Games bundle (LittleBigPlanet 3, Driveclub, SingStar Ultimate Party, Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition, Trials Fusion, Infamous: First Light) - $598 (no price cut)
PlayStation 4 Console 500GB + Drive Club + inFamous Second Son + Little Big Planet Bundle - White -$499 (from Target, listed because its the only deal thats cheaper)

So is it just as bad in your country?? I just cant see why anybody would buy a WiiU over a PS4 or Xbox One unless the only games you play are Nintendo games... in which case you should have just bought it at launch and enjoyed the droughts like the rest of us did =D

In Canada

Wii U with SM3DW-$250

PS4 with GTA and TLOU-$450

X1 with 2 AC games-$400.  There is also deals in many stores for used X1 with Kinect and Ryse+Just Dance for $350.

I didn't see any special deals for the holidays for the Wii U.  That bundle was here before the holiday period, they literally did nothing extra when the holidays came.

Well the online is free, its BC with the Wii and you don't have to buy your downloaded games again. The price is fair imo.

It should be pretty clear that they want maximum profits by now and I am seeing a price cut in 2015

because Aussies are still buying it lol.

It is that simple. They haven't hit a rate low enough to drop the price yet. I know 4 parents at work who upgraded their wii to wii u this year.

It's also not as good and doesn't come with PS+/Games with Gold or 3gb of cloud saves. You do have a point with the BC but that isn't really a reason to not lower the price so I don't think the price is fair. It's been out 2 years and needs a decent pricecut.

It'll be interesting to see how long Nintendo holds out at this rate. Maybe they'll cut in the first week of April, after their fiscal-year end?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I remember back in June when EB games had the $270 skylanders Wii U bundle. That shit was sold out in a matter of days. In Australia, $200 -$250 is the sweet spot in my humble opinion.

It is overpriced, nintendo needs to lower the price. If they fear losing money then they should drop the gamepad
