Overpriced movie to fight communism. Capitalism at its finest.

But $14 to see it in theaters, $20 for DVD, and $25 for Blu Ray is just fine, right?

5 euros in my country. 20$ for DVD is overpriced (12 euros max), 20 euros for bluray is fine as you can watch dubbed version at first, original second and japanese dub version for lulz with friends.

Oh, well if you think everything is overpriced, then I don't have a problem with your opinion. But for others, $12-14 is pretty standard to see a movie in theaters, and $20/25 to own it is pretty standard as well, so I don't know why anyone was fretting about spending $6 to watch a movie.

I saw a couple posts about the "theater experience". A small popcorn costs $6, but you wanna complain about $6 for the actual movie???

Theater Expirience, my bros projector up stairs with 5.1 surround sound eating whatever I want and not paying out the ass for it... much better than a real theater

Lol, now people complain about the price... that's $6!

Hahaha, comic.

Not even per person either....>_> go figure.

Sony can't ever catch a break. Haters gunna hate. PS4 gunna dominate. ;D

Screw theater experience: drive, look for acailable parking, wait in line, watch 15 minutes of ads, have someone kick your seat from behind, others commenting loudly, guy in front of you texting, woman in your row getting up to go pee three times, the room either airconditioned as Siberia or heated like Sahara....and on top of all that, you need to pay (at least in my country that isn't much, about 5€).

I always choose to watch from the comfort of my living room, eat and drink what I want, pause the movie, etc.etc., all for free.

Unless it's Avatar or Gravity, there is little reason to even watch movies on a screen bigger than 40-60 inches. And this movie in particular, if my wife chooses not to watch it, I'll just watch it on my phone...

:D

Well either way, Sony is losing a ton of money on this. They're skipping the overpriced theater release's profits and going straight to the streaming with no dvd or blu-ray profits. Pretty sure this will end up on torrent sites by the end of the week.

Oooh gonna watch this with my bro later. It's available in the UK right?

I just hope nothing bad happens. And that the movie is good

It won't. It probably isn't.

The thing is that theatrical releases split money about 60/40 in favor of theatres, so $6 from rentals actually makes about the same money for the studio like a $15 movie ticket.

And a $15 download is pure profit. And thus move in no way excludes a future retail release.

This movie's budget was 44 million. Without all this hype, it would gave probably tanked in the crowded holiday market, seeing it's a mediocre comedy at best. All this hype, along with a favorable earnings split will certainly make this movie much more money than before.

Not saying that it will turn profit in the end, but it will surely lose less.

As far as torrents and RoW, surely they never expected this film to do even remotely well outside the US.

I doubt they'll lose much on it. The film's budget was relatively small ($44m), and the film never had a chance to enter full swing with its advertising. With all the free publicity it's had, it should make a decent amount from streaming. It will likely still make an overall loss (at least in the short term), but it will be a drop in the pond compared to the losses we've seen from many films.
