Forums - Sony Discussion - Remember when you could have Linux on the PS3

Just started to think about this, it's been a long time since they got rid of it but I remember having it. Honestly it was horribly slow assuming because of the low RAM.

Did anyone else have it?

Sure, i know i can play emulators but why would i when i have PS3 games to play?

All to well I remember it. I used Linux on PS3 for all of my internet browsing, word processing, photo editing, and everything else. Still to this day, I believe that the PS3 60GB model was the best electronic device I have ever owned. The failure of PS3 to gain traction when it was so fully featured still haunts me. Full backwards compatability, card reader slots, 4 USB ports, Blu-ray support that matured with the medium, Linux support. I would love to see where we would be today had PS3 hit the ground running.

This is not to say I don't love the PS4, but honestly the launch PS3 was the best electronic device ever produced. Nothing before, and nothing in the future will ever match it in price, performance, and functionality.
