Forums - Sony Discussion - Two of my PS3 consoles died within 1 week. Not even funny anymore.

Hey guys.

Last week I was updating my seconday PS3 slim to the newest firmware version and then it showed an error while performing the update.
It told me to restart and try again and when I reached 50-60% or so I got the same error again and again and again.

Problem is I cannot boot normally it always tries to update and fails. Im stuck in a loop.

Then I wiped the harddrive (nothing of value was on that console) via PC and put it back in. This time I didnt download the update via PS3 but via PC and put it on a thumb drive.
Same shit happens.

New harddrive.
Same shit happens....

Was also trying to fix this with "safe mode" same thing happens.

I was like "man I cant be bothered to waste even more hours on this today...." so I stopped and gave up.

Any idea on how to fix this?
(no warranty since July 2014)

Fast forward 5 days (today) I plugged in my other PS3 and I have alot of green little flashing pixels/dots.  Changed display settings (also performed a video reset) Changed HDMI cables. Tried another TV. Still have the green dots/pixels.

Seems like my GPU is dying.

Seriously WTF is this? Probably not the case but to me this seems like a "its time to upgrade to PS4 bro" move by Sony.
Hey Sony I already own a PS4!!! Fix my PS3s pretty please?! (and no its not an invite to kill my PS4 now!)

Can I do something to fix this?
(no warranty since June 2014)

---

I do own another 3rd PS3 that is completely unused. (and its still working. Thank god!)
Can I just copy my savegames (from the "pixel error" PS3) to a thumb drive and transfer them over without loosing anything of value? (I dont care about trophies and nonsense like that)

Or do I have to connect my PS3s by using an ethernet cable? This takes ages right?....
I do know that just changing the harddrive wont work because of console ID/HDD software ID mismatch.

Help me please :(

It happens. Call Sony.

Just a thought but perhaps you have a corrupt USB stick plugged into the console. Couple of years ago My then 4gb 360 was unusable until I took out the dodgy USB drive and replaced it.

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

That sucks but at least you still have one more working one.

Worst feeling in the world is when a console dies. All of the hours and saves--even for games you might never even play again--gone forever. I feel your pain, bro.

I am not 100% sure on this but with playstation plus subscribtion you can upload your files in your cloud and then just copy the files to the new console i think. So if you want being save you should try this out if you want to spent some money or just use the free trial.

I'm pretty sure there are feelings worse than that.

Exactly the kind of thing a CASUAL gamer would say!

Probably easy fixes, but yea just search around. Youtube videos, google, Sony, etc.

I had 2 360s and a PS3 break one week. However I was able to salvage all 3 of them.

One 360 didn't read discs, quickly fixed in a week.

2nd 360 read game discs as movies... still problematic. Can use for digital though. No Warranty.

PS3 didn't turn on and then had disc read problems. Thankfully fixed under warranty.

I had the same problem with mine and the problem was coming from the hard drive that burned out. If it didn't work for you, then I don't know :(

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...
