No its not that simple. $50 price cut along with a few adult games won't do much for Wii U. I find it very odd anyone actually believes such a simple strategy would turn things around.

Why not? How is it not that simple? Nintendo hasn't tried anything like that yet and they just keep pumping out the kid games but it's still selling like crap. Hmmm, I wonder why. It needs to show that it's taking adult gamers seriously then more adults would buy the console. How many marios can the consumer market take before it's utterly burnt out on it? It needs new IP's.

Well for one, Gamecube had a low price and a handful of good, exclusive adult games. Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4 (time exclusive), Metal Gear Sold: The Twin Snakes, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Tales of Symphonia. It also had a bunch of adult multiplats, Spinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, True Crime among others. It even had a $99.99 Resident Evil 4 bundle and the console could barely manage 20 million sales.

Despite popular belief, Wii U does actually have a decent amount of adult games. ZombiU, Ninja gaiden 3, Call of Duty: BO2, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Mass Effect 3, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed IV, Tekken Tag Tournament, The Walking Dead, Resident Evil Revelations, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, with Devil's Third and Xenoblade Chronicles X coming next year. So basically ur saying do a $50 price cut and sales will rejuvenate.

Also Mario doesn't even have nearly as many games on Wii U as previous Nintendo consoles did, Wii U might be the console with the smallest amount of Mario games ever. And Nintendo does invest in new ip, they make a handful of new ones on each device they release.

The gamecube was competing with the ps2 which had a lot more adult games and a ton of rpg's. So it had very little adult compared to the competition then. With the wii u, how many of those were from the older gen and how many of those were new IP? It needs at around 5 quality adult games (no old gen) at first with a $50 to 100 price cut to draw people. It needs more than a "few" new IP's. Mario and his pals will not draw the demographic of gamers i'm talking about. The core nintendo have already bought it so it needs more than it's typical franchises to bring in sales. A new console that early will only alienate it's current fanbase.

And Wii U is competing with PS4/XB1 which both have alot more adult games, so what's ur point? 5 new adult games is still a ton less than the competitors have so im confused why u think this small, random number of games will attract millions.

A new console that early won't necessarily alienate the fanbase. Gameboy Advance released in 2001, it's successor released 3.5 years later and went on to sell over 150 million. Xbox released in 2001 and it's successor released 4 years later, which went on to sell over 80 million. Those are two somewhat recent examples that prove releasing a successor early doesn't automatically alienate the fanbase.

By the end of 2015, Nintendo 1st/2nd party titles and 3rd party exclusives will consist of New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Game & Wario, New Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wii Sports Club, Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Boom, Super Smash Bros U, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, NES Remix Collection, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Star Fox, Devil's Third, Mario Party 10, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Legend of Zelda and a few rumored/hinted at titles that could release in 2015/2016 being Diddy Kong Racing, Pokken Fighters, 3D Metroid, Animal Crossing, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Paper Mario plus a solid amount of exclusive digital games and perhaps a few other titles that we have no idea about yet.

If current owners feel alienated with that many exclusive titles then nothing is likely to please them. We also have to take into account that Nintendo consoles dating back to N64 have had very bad software output in the 5th year. N64 in 2001 had 2-3 major releases, GC in 2006 only had the cross-gen Twilight Princess, Wii in 2011 only had Skyward Sword & Kirby Return to Dreamland with 2012 having nothing significant. Why not just skip that 5th year drought and release their new console at the end of the 4th year?

Welp, if it happens then it will be competing against mid-gen library on the PS4 & XB1 so I for one have no idea how a new console with presumably better specs but relatively few games optimized for it would do.

It does make sense that Nintendo would want to reboot their console platform sooner rather than later.

1. 5 quality adult games to start with is what I said. The wii u is still competing with the xbox one but not the ps4. :D

2. Why did you compare consoles to handhelds?  Some good to offset the bad? Anyway, those are two different markets and comparing their life cycles doesn't really matter in this discussion.  Alot of those games won't attract adult gamers that aren't already fans of nintendo. Some might.

3. Honestly, I would like nintendo to try it to see if it works and if I'm right about it. You're basically cutting a normal console life cycle in half. If you want to be a cash cow, let them do that.

Why do you think the wii u is doing so horrible against it's supposed competition? Why isn't it selling consoles that well this early in it's life cycle? What could it do to change it's fortune?

There is no reason to react, the PlayStation 4 train can't be stopped.
Nintendo will as always launch with something that is weaker than the competition. Wii sold well because it appealed to women, the result will be similar to the Wii U if the next console don't do that.

Yes it does.. And there are some other things to..

1. If the "hybrid console" is real.. it could mean.. Powerwise like WiiU.. (Meaning very easy to port to WiiU.. meaning curent WiiU owners will still get new AAA)

WHEN it comes to Nintendo "next true Homeconsole" i firmly believe that will be a VR system.. and it could come 2016..

Heck even sony, ms, facebook, samsung.. and other will have some vr/beta set out there to,, and Nintendo have worked on VR very long time..  And they are always in the fronline of new ways to game..

"Nintendo Next (home) System" will 99% have VR..

Sony can just buddle the psvita

Courage to compete? What a silly question. Nintendo has stopped being competitive long time ago, and will never even come close to challenging PS/MS. And there is nothing they can do about it. They need to forget about making home consoles completely, concentrate on the handheld/smartphone market and make money there. Any subsequent home console will be an even grander failure than WiiU has been so far.
