Forums - Gaming Discussion - What innovations do you want in games?

I would like a game to defy my expectations of the game world. I'd like a game that flips the tea set...but not because it pushes moral boundaries...but rather mental boundaries. Games aren't reality so they shouldn't be bound by reality.

I'd like fewer multiplayer/online advancements and more core advancements that make me feel like the game I'm playing is a flawless world that can't be broken. And then I'd like the developer to allow that world to be broken. I want my mind blown...that is all.

I'm excited to see some of the gamepad integration in the upcoming Wii U games. Games like Star Fox, Splatoon, Kirby and Zelda seem to utilize it very well.

It's not like a game has to be innovative in order to be great though.

I want to be surprised, like with the first analog stick, internet on Dreamcast, XBLA or motion controls. I want more innovations in terms if how we experience games. If I knew what they were, it wouldn't seem as innovative.

Motion control seems to be dead this gen. I think i'd like something more towards really being able to create a storyline like table rpg, but i think its just impossible .

I don't really care. Just give me bigger world, better physics and more content.

The only innovation I'm asking for is new, different but creative worlds that have a distinct personality and style, of course that wouldn't be innovating to gaming as a whole, but that'll make each new IP much more distinct and "innovative" in their own departments. On the other hand, something I would consider an innovation to gaming as a whole it's something like setting a new bar on distinct departments that pretty much any game has, things like advanced AI, making 60fps an standard instead of graphical fedelity, stuff like that.

I'm now filled with determination.

New IP's are a lot more important to me than innovation in a established franchise. I usually stop playing franchises a couple of games in because they either make them too often or they get kinda shitty. They don't really improve upon the core of the game. AC, COD, Battlefield, Resident evil, zelda (old story) are some of the series I won't touch with a ten foot pole. I rather play new IP's like No man's sky.

I don't think innovation is a problem or should be a huge focus. Sometimes that back fires *cough* wii u *cough*. Alot of the video game companies just keep putting out remakes, remasterings or more games in a franchise without really improving upon it. Hell, sometimes they take stuff away from the game like dragon age 2 and mass effect 2. They sometimes change too much stuff in a series without really thinking about it.

As far as franchises go, the next installment should be an overall improvement. I believe that a franchise should focus on story, character development, game lore, deeper npc interaction, better game play. I rather have more in-game content or a richer game than more graphics.

Less linear gameplay. I want FPS like Unreal! And improved AI because it's the same since 10 years or more.

- More complex AI: Enemies (and allies) that react better to changing circumstances in-game.
- Enemies and environments reacting properly to being damaged: Remember Perfect Dark letting you shoot guns out of people's hands? Hell, shoot them in the arm or leg and they actually react the way you'd expect. Why is environmental damage more or less restricted to the (probably now-dead) Red Faction franchise?
- First person view with peripherals: We've got surround sound, now we need these VR headsets out so all characters in FPS won't have the exact same vision restrictions as wearing goggles.
- Characters being absolutely capable of doing things they should be capable of doing: Case in point, any game that involves climbing will include at least one situation where there's a surface that looks imminently climbable, but is actually a smooth, featureless wall. I've run into a few situations recently where it looks like a character really should be able to jump down onto a platform, but an invisible wall or just plain-ol' insta-death said no.
- Speaking of invisible walls...: Is there a one-size-fits-all solution to removing these things? (Meaning, replace them with something less gamey and immersion breaking.) I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

I want A.I!

Which also includes stuff like NPCs waking up going to work, having a launchbreak, driving to a super market and picking up their kids from school etc.

I want to be able to follow any NPC in games like GTA and see what his/her life is like and want all of them to have a different life. (obviously have a life generator like BL has a weapon generator that gives me what was it? "870 gazillion"? different lives
