Abortion is up to the woman because it grows in her, it is her body, not yours. Get your hands off of my fiance lol, I don't like abortion and nor would I want it. However if my lady went that route, it is her choice. with out her body, it couldn't happen anyway. So if you could have it surgically removed and put into your body, then you can have a position on the issue.

from your above post > "My Fiance' first request is we do a circumcision."

Well then... you seem to be just fine with double standards in your own home so I would think your views on equality between genders would indeed fall the same way.

Gender equality can hardly fall that way when men can't get pregnant. I feel gender equality just has to be about having decent attitudes and respect to the opposite sex. Certainly no coercion between them

What I meant was, on one hand he is saying that a man has no right to say anything about what happens with the body of a woman yet his fiance told him to to cut the top of either his own penis or their childs I'm not sure which but either way, She dictates actions on a males body just fine in that relationship.

Yeah its a tricky one but how do we a draw a line on such things? I always thought men influence women and vice versa, no matter what it is. Its all about concensus, abortion is available but not a decision taken lightly. But yeah it isn't fair if a man can't get his partner to abort when he don't want it much like it isn't fair that she dictates a circumcision.

I'm so glad, I don't study law lol. Things like this just get so complicated

We have a bit of a nuts case here in Ireland atm.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/dec/19/dead-irish-woman-body-incubator-abortion

Here we have laws which protect the unborn which are a bit... crazy, if you take a read of that story there was one case of a girl who was raped and suicidal was forced to keep her child and have it delivered which is beyond messed up really considering that kid is 50% of the genetics of her rapist which she now has as her child.

But yeah the new story is a woman who died.... I believe from a blood clot in her brain but her foetus is still alive and at around 4months  people now think it's an issue of abortion laws here that the dead womans parents can't dictate to have the girls body turned off and there by end the life of the unborn child... imo on that story (which I'm trying to stay away from as much as possible because it's just terrible if you see some of the 1500+ comments on that news article) the parents really shouldn't have the right to say to kill the kid, I mean that isn't anything to do with abortion, if you were to try to amend the law to allow them to kill the unborn kid in this instance that law would be giving the parents of a pregnant person the rights to end the pregnancy, could be abused left right and center by angry parents with their pregnant daughters.

The story is worth a read... but do not get drawn into the comments on there... fuck it even the "newspaper" headline states to "be angry" about it, they really are trying to drum up peoples emotions and angry at a law that really isnt what is causing the parents not to be allowed turn off their daughters life support machines, I mean even in countries where abortion is legal they couldn't terminate a pregnancy so far along I believe.

He doesn't have the pants, so there hasn't been much discussion.

Why bring open sexism into this debate?

Didn't think a "wearing the pants" joke could be considered sexism, but I appreciate the education.

His circumcision was still his choice was it not? I don't remember him saying you couldn't talk about it with the mother of your child. Just that it is up to her not him, just like with his circumcision being up to him not her.

I think in his opinion if she thinks she wants to get an abortion you should shut up because it's her body, end of story. From this post I would think this person very much doesn't believe they have a say in the running of things at all.

Most of those are gender specific anyway, just happens that one sex can reproduce and the other can't. #2 is bullshit though, men having to sign for the draft to even vote doesn't go beyond America though. 'Land of the free' Just ironic.

also i don't quite get the point with #3/4. Men can easily avoid parenthood by wearing a condom though. But despite that, the law is certainly one-sided otherwise. But how would you suggest it be changed? i'm not sure if it can be equalised due to the biological differences in both genders. Hard to call

And women can avoid abortion by wearing a condom so... It's silly to think the condom is the responsibality of the man only, the condom is the responsability of both.

The law can easily be changed, at least just by letting the man choose to not be the father of the child, be " under X " without being forced to do anything, like they allow for women even if the woman wants him to recognize the child and pay for him. If the woman has the choice to legally not take care of her child and give him up without being guilty and called coward, a man shouuld have that choice too

Why do people think men have no choices? If the mother doesn't want the child (not meaning abortion) the father has a right to full custody or putting the kid up for adoption. If he gets custody he would also get child-support from the mother. You got be kidding yourself if you think that women who put up for adoption or abort their child aren't thought of as cowardly.
