Forums - Gaming Discussion - History of Tomb Raider video shows copying Uncharted restricted lara

The puzzle tombs were a joke in the reboot. There was a bit more path finding outside but all very simple and straight forward. The old tomb raider was more of a 3D exploration puzzle adventure game with action sequences. Now it's a 3rd person shooter with a bit of climbing.

The reboot opted to be a mix of Far Cry 3 and Uncharted and forgot what made the series special. It had forgotten that earlier already, as the ones before it were very linear with simplified puzzles. That's probably why the reboot was well received, it was an improvement over Legend and Underworld. Yet still missing everything that made the first games so good.

I wish they would make an anniversary version of Tombraider 2 if they can't make a new one like that.

People say Tomb Raider copies TLoU?

The controls of the PS1 TR games were too clunky for me.

I liked Legend, Anniversary and Underworld the most, they had vastly improved controls and still lots of exploration. Not excellent games, but good ones.

The 2013 reboot is way too automated for my taste and there's more cover based shooting than exploration. It seems to be made for a new generation of gamers that prefers dumbed down "cinematic experiences" with lots of action while the 2006-2008 games were made for the old fans.

Nathan has a personality? Lara not? What?

Nathan has charisma and it was written into his character, not to mention being acted by one of the greatest gaming actors of all time. Lara Crofts character wasnt even written well and struggled in the reboot to lay claim to any kind of personality. She was just lost amid "surviving" the whole game. The most you got out of her was that she was the protector. In the old Tomb Raiders she was just a rich badass girl.

This video is enough to reveal the truth.

Yep. That video shows just how much it was ripping off Uncharted even though they succeeded in interpreting the feeling that Uncharted gives off in games today.

I don't know about that video.  I'm no more of an expert than the next guy but, having experienced almost all of the Tomb Raider games as they came out, it seems like the narrative of that video is kind of bent to create a certain point of view.  I haven't finished it yet. Waiting for my food at a restaurant--and there is certainly enough evidence to support his views but it doesn't tell the whole story by a long shot.

Tomb Raider reboot was everything Uncharted should have been.

Roll on Rise of the Tomb Raider.

This must be a joke.

In hindsight it isn't ...

Every developer should strive to improve their games and Uncharted could do more by making the levels more open.

If it makes you feel any better though Uncharted was everything the older Tomb Raider games should've been ...

Eidos KNOWS Tomb Raider wouldn't exist in it's current form had Uncharted have never been created ...
