ZombieJesus said: Open challenge to any theist: Provide empirical evidence for your position. If you cannot, you fail to establish it. The synthetic/analytic distinction is real and every theistic argument in existence FAILS to be analytic. Theism is untenable, anyone adhering to this nonsense is irrational on this point. PS: To any moderators with substandard reading skills, there is no insult here.

The short version. Everything that exists was caused by something. Cause and effect is a scientific axiom. Either existence "began" from an infinite regression of causes, or it began from a cause that had no preceding cause. Choose your poison. I pick the uncaused cause.
If you want more detail I suggest doing your own research, as this thread is not for ongoing theological discussion.
Also what happened to Seece's follow up to the violent video game question?

This is known as the cosmological argument and it doesn't lend one iota of credence for the god argument. It merely attempts to establish what is known as a first cause, which doesn't need to be a being at all. It is an argument I could concede without assessment and it would not further any theistic argument. But alas it is also an untenable argument. The disagreement stems from P2, the Universe began to exist. This is unsubstantiated; for me to simply concede it would be folly.
Alan Guth of the Borde, Guth, Vilenkin theory (big bang cosmology - classical) states "The Universe likely had no beginning."
It is also incoherent to say things like "existence began to exist" - please be more careful with your wording if you wish to present yourself as a competent person.
It is completely fallacious to state that causality is some magical rule that applies to all of existence. All axioms are DESCRIPTIVE and not PROSCRIPTIVE, which is to say that these are not rules the Universe follows, but rules we've made up to describe events/phenomena which occur in the Universe.
Dunno what you mean about violent video games. Link?
