Forums - Movies & TV - When should have The Simpsons been cancelled?

After 25 years, 26 seasons and over 560 episodes the series deserves to be called one of the greatest of all time a insane ammount of lovable caracters, excelent episodes and all sorts of awesome quotes have cemented The Simpsons in pop culture.

However, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that the show is well past it's prime and now has just become another another animated sitcom as opposed to the king it was back in the 90s.

Simple question, if you think the Simpsons should've been cancelled, when do you think it should've happen or when it should happen.

Around the Network

It should have been cancelled when Futurama started going live.

Probably around 1999 when Family Guy started. I have seen a few episodes of the Simpsons and I have not laughed at all. But I get it, FOX keeps it going because the show helped put FOX on the map as a contender network.

When it actually was cancelled...

Actually, no, I don't agree.  The Simpsons had some great years, and some not so great years.  A rollercoaster of quality if you will.  However, I'd elect to watch the Simpsons over 95% of the horseshit people call TV nowadays.  Then again, watching TV, like playing a video game, is something you choose to do.  Fox will cancel the Simpson's, when it's no longer drawing big ratings.  Not only do I watch the Simpsons every week, I also watch reruns on FX constantly.

Around the Network

After the 16th season.
Season 17 had a few good episodes, but far from the previous quality. Every other episode I've seen afterwards was just trying to tell a story without being funny at all.

I stopped watching over a decade ago. I loved it for the first 9-10 seasons, but when South Park showed up it just became an inferior animated show and I quit on it.
Still love Homer, though.

The movie should of been the series finale.

End of 1999 season

I haven't watched it for years... but why cancel it as long as it has millions of viewers who like it and as long that series is profitable?
