Forums - Gaming Discussion - How is FFXIII's story?

Confusing, but alright. That's how I'd explain it.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's fine. Not the best, but it's doable

Its pretty good despite what most say. You gotta remember the Internet is the vocal minority. They dont represent what all gamers think.

Not always but in this case it's what the majority thinks

Yeah, the majority of the Internet. Im talking about gamers around the world who aren't constantly on the Internet.

"Say what you want about Americans but we understand Capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you Get What You Pay For."

- Max Payne 3

It's a bit convoluted, it spans all 3 games and the ending is absolute JRPG goodness with a mindblowing revelation.

All in all pretty good and standard Final Fantasy fare. Dat ending tho.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It advances slowly, has a few annoying moments, but overall it works pretty well and I loved the atmosphere in that game up until the very end, where the desperation just disappeared.

If you can get to the end without digressing into a state of absolute confusion, it's quite enjoyable. The lore in particular is incredibly deep.

The same can be said of the 2nd game, but the 3rd chucks all semblances of logic out the window, kills a cat, throws up a few plot holes then sits triumphantly upon the festering tears of fans while wearing the shit eating grin of a child that just wet itself. Dat Ending.

The Fal'c made the La'c to serve the Fal'c to give the La'c a focus that they must perform to go into crystal stasis. But if they fail it they turn into Se'ith. And the heroes need to transform into the apocalypse to kill Orphan that's holding up the world.

It's elementary.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

you will get bombarded with terms like l'cie, fal'cie, focus, cocoon... and so on right from the start without much explaination. if you're paitient and listen carefully you should be able to figure out their meaning somtime during the game though. think of the story like: a group northkoreans trying to save their country by first fighting against americans, then against kim jong un and then figuring out that "destroying" the county might not be such a bad idea after all.

People who think the Kingdom Hearts story sucks are, without exception, stupid. Being confused because they haven't played the games is another matter.

As for FFXIII, while it's not on KH's level, it's quite sophisticated and has some good character development and presentation. The main problem with it is that it requires a lot of lore knowledge that is only found via reading journal entries and external information... Which is less than ideal, because it prevents many people from ever understanding half of what is going on and what it all means.

While FFXIII's story is excellent overall, except in exlaining itself, it doesn't have KH's depth, lore excellence, well-written characters, etc. KH is just an entirely higher standard, and it benefits from being a very large narrative across many games. While KH is a huge story that was planned a decade ago and is still being presented to us bit by bit, FFXIII is a one-off that they got two totally unplanned (and thus tonally inconsistent) sequels.

A mess.
