I prefer it here myself; I like that there is far less antagonism and personal attacks compared to a lot of other game sites.

But yeah, we're digressing.

VI
Best characters ever and the best villain ever Kefka.
Compared to him Sepiroth is nothing but a crybaby

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

both of the games have severe bugs at release (and many years thereafter)... evasion for FFVI, and Magic Defense for FFVII good job square!

Final Fantasy VI wins because open world games are better, or that's what I've heard. Unless that applies only to games from gen 7 onwards.

This is tough but I will go with VII since it was my first foray into FF.

They're so close to me it's so hard to pick a winner!

FF6:

+ More and better characters.
+ Faster paced battle system
+ Game allows 4 characters in the party
+ Row system
+ Very well polished for a SNES RPG.

- Somewhat lacking in innovation.

FF7:

+ Stronger atmosphere
+ Had a much bigger impact on the industry
+ Dared to make a change unlike FF6 which comes off as a heavily polished version of FF4 and 5
+ 3D RPG was a big challenge to get into but the team did a wonderful job at making it a reality.
+ Everything in the battle is fully animated (as opposed to the outdated 'albeit elegant' Sprites in FF6)
+ Materia System adds a layer of complexity to the game
+ More Sidequests/Mini games
+ Harder superbosses
+ Limits

- Early game in the gen means it could've been more polished.

Kefka is an overrated jester and a clear copy to The Joker. Sephiroth was much more original and had a far stronger introduction/presence throughout the game. It's sad to see people clinging to this "mama's boy" thing and ignoring everything that makes him a great character.

The reason why FFVII is so despised on Nintendo-centric sites is that it is the game spearheaded the downfall of Nintendo.

for good, nintendo never released FF in europe and australia until sony published 7 and spent also much on marketing this game.
