Forums - Gaming Discussion - I liked MGSV: Ground Zero so which MGS should I play?

If it's between the two, then I say the collection.

So MGSIV or the HD Collection? It seems most of you think the HD collection?

I am not looking to spend that much money, as I already have quite a few games I have not finished.
Dragon Age, GTAV, FC4, The Evil WIthin, Pier Solar, AC:U (which I dont care for) hopefully all these will hold me until Bloodborne :D

You obviously don't want to get MGS4 first. It's the end of the Solid Snake storyline.

Download MGS1 off PSN, play that, then get the MGS Collection which has MGS2 (playing MGS1 is crucial for 2 IMO), MGS3, and Peace Walker. Get 4 and play that after 2 and 3 but before Peace Walker since it came first.

Would it be possible to properly comprehend the story of 1 from reading about it? Everytime I try to play a PS1/PS2 game these days I get a killer headache.

Maybe it is because I have not really played previous MGSs but the story of Ground Zero was all over the place lol

I haven't played GZ yet actually. So I can't comment much on its story. But it makes sense that you found it confusing. You probably need to play MGS 3 and Peace Walker to understand what Big Boss is doing and why he's doing these things.

I dont know if you are a PS4 gamer but the PS4 version of Ground Zero is on sale for 10$ on Amazon.

I don't know if there's a really comprehensive summary out there for it. MGS1 is a pretty involved story, and also it's worth playing for the visual cues going into MGS2.

If you're apprehensive towards PS1 and PS2 games, I don't know what to tell you. MGS2 and MGS3 are PS2 games, and Peace Walker HD is a remastered PSP game. That only leaves you 4 besides Ground Zeroes, but you're not going to get much out of it without playing the others...

If you want to get into the story, play 1 first.

I can handle remasters just not straight up PS1/PS2 games. Ive tried several times to play some of my old PS1 and 2 games and I never get far in =/

You can watch a playthrough of MGS1 if you don't want to play a PS1 game or play the Gamecube version if that's possible, but yeah I wouldn't recommend playing MGS4 without playing (or at least watching) MGS1 and 2. You won't understand anything at all.

Legacy collection would've been best if you had gotten it when it was first released for $39 but of the two options definitely the HD collection. MGS3 is still by far the best imo (and also the first mgs game you should play chronologically too)

Play in release order!!!!

Buy MGS1 from the PSN store or you could watch the cutscenes on youtube if a PS1 game is a bit outdated for u
Buy HD collection
Buy MGS4 used for like 5-10$ (its available digitally now on PSN as of last week for 19.99$)
Pre-order Phantom Pain

Done and enjoy

Btw how much do you know about the general story? like you know the Snake in 1,2 and 4 is a different person then the Snake in MGS3,Peace Walker, Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain?

Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Play MGS3. After that, I don't care what you do.
