Forums - Movies & TV - Russian/Soviet movies.

I just get an inreresting thought.
Its easy for anybody to see American movies, Hollywood is everywhere.
We all know great European movies, I like Italian and France.
We also can watch Chinese/Korean/Japanese movies.

But what for the Russian/Soviet movies? Some of them are real piece of Art. Is it possible for an average American/European to watch it or it is hard to find?

They're easy enough to find here if you're interested but still pretty obscure, though not really more so than any other non-English foreign films, I guess. Off the top of my head I can only think of a few like Dersu Uzala and Night Watch that have much of a cult following.

Yeah, I think a Soviet movie filmed by Akira Kurosawa is a rare sight! )

Surely there are many quality movies available on torrent sites. I really enjoyed Nocnoj Dozor (Night Watch) and the sequels. But it is true that there is little publuc knowledge of those films, and unless you actively seek them, they are somewhat unknown.
I also strongly reccomend to all to pay attention to a great number of excellent Serbian films, most of which are translated online: Rane (The Wounds), Parada (Parade), Lepa Sela Lepo Gore (Pretty Village Pretty Flame) and Kad porastem bicu kengur (When I Grow Up I'll Be a Kangaroo) are just a few recommendations.

im pretty sure i watched more than a hundred russian movies :D

the other day I rewatched the return aka vozvrashchenie great movie, great drama.. one of my favorites.

They couldn't have picked a better guy for that project. He was the best. The only director who even comes close to him in my eyes is Werner Herzog.

you can find a lot of these films on youtube just search with the russian name

But the #1 Russian production in my home right now is Masha i Medved (Masha and the Bear), my daughters love it immensely. (And I am convinced Masha is a ripiff of my younger daughter - I'll sue them for royalties)

I've only seen one. An action movie called The Apocalypse Code. It was pretty good, loved to see the Americans be the bad guys for once, lol. I would love to watch a miniseries made in Russia about the Spetsnaz, it looks pretty damn good but sadly I wasn't able to find any subtitles for it.

Here is the intro for the series, I have problems embedding for some reason:
