binary solo said: 1 week > 1 million =/= 4 more weeks > 1 million. Are you expecting Xb one to get to 13 million? It too is selling over a million a week now. 16 million in the first full calendar year is about the same as Wii achieves (16.55M). PS4 needs just under 5 million more to get to that figure. Pretty much impossible IMO. |
XB1 selling better only on US and UK but PS4 selling all over the world which has great chance of reaching 1 millon every week but XB1 was able to do that just because of BF only last week.
So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.
PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.
Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.
Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.
Wii had a 24 million peak year, PS2 had several over 20 million, the DS had a couple at nearly 30 million. So; no, this is not the best year ever. It is amazingly impressive none the less.
For a year old console the numbers are impressive. Yes there's a chance it can reach 20m mark. EU is buying PS4s this christmas like there's no tomorrow.

Yeah I agree with this.
PS4 numbers is impressive but you need to take into consideration the context. Compared to the best years of the highest selling consoles, its not impressive yet. However, the first year is never the peak year of a console. Over the next 2 - 3 years we should be able to tell if PS4 can match the peak years of Wii & PS2. I dont see that happening though.
Compared to the first year of other consoles, the numbers is definitely impressive, but still not quite at Wii levels.

Pretty much, I don't think we can expect the PS4 to have the same yoy growth as the PS3/360 did, or even the PS2 with its all around perfect market conditions, both software and hardware will likely be more front-loaded than in the extremely long 7th generation. Certainly won't beat the Wii's initial growth, it was so heavily supply constrained for the entire first CY, a 50% increase yoy from 1st to 2nd CY is likely something that will never be matched by another console.
Hard to predict anything at this point but I do think that the PS4's peak year will be in the ~20 million region, furthermore; I believe this will be in 2016.
Wait am I missing something? Where are people getting this info that the PS4 is selling one million units a week? Yes it did it over Black Friday which is expected but unless you guys have information that I haven't seen yet I don't believe that it's still selling around 1mil a week.
Anyway, if the PS4 reaches 20 million after about 13 months on the market that is quite impressive regardless of whether the Wii had better years (And it did). I plan on picking one up next month :)

The new consoles also seem to be lacking something that the last gen consoles had, and that is new gaming experiences. This is obviously subjective, but the Wii did motion gaming right, the PS3 and 360 brought cinematic gaming with COD, Gears and Uncharted.
The PS4 and XB1 just seem to be an enhancement on the last gen in terms of game design. And while it doesnt seem to have a big impact on sales now, i definitely think it will impact the growth down the line.
