Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Koji Kondo isn't doing the music for Zelda U, who should?

The composers who worked on Skyward Sword.. That game definitely has an amazing soundtrack!

Yeah lol I feel like we're poster children for how Zelda fans can never be satisfied.

Didn't you read your own conventions in Zelda thread?! That's an even better example ^^

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

What I don't understand is why Kondo isn't working on more soundtracks these days. He seems to always be in a supervisor position. I understand that he is trying to prepare the next generation of Nintendo composers, but there's a problem.

He's been supervising for like the past ten years.

He's only 53 years old.

I think the better question is "Why can't Kondo compose more tracks on his own?" While the games he supervises for generally turn out great musically (minus SS), they are nowhere near as good as Kondo's compositions. By the time he retires, which we'll presume is another ten years, he will have spent more time supervising than composing original music.

Why doesn't Nintendo utilize their best composer? Could you imagine if John Williams was kept from doing original compositions during the second half of his career and instead took over a supervisor position? Can you imagine how many tracks we would have missed out on?

While Skyward Sword kinda sucked... the music was amazing spermanig! I think the composer from SS should come back for this game.

Kenji Yamamoto and David Wise.

That would be AMAZING. The Tropical Freeze soundtrack is one of my favourites of all time, not just on Wii U. They're a great match, too - Wise's work is so expressive while Yamamoto does some really wonderful atmospheric work that would probably fit really well with the Zelda dungeons.

I don't think it's music was memorable at all.

The ballad of the goddess was pretty good and there was a boss theme (that we only got to hear 2 times) that was really awesome. Also the final boss theme was pretty cool too!

It doesn't have a LOT of memorable tunes but the few it has are worth it.

I think there are other Zelda composers that are far more consistant though. I think the only place where Skyward Sword truly excelled musically where in the dramatic action cutscenes, where the music didn't have to be memorable to be effective. The few standouts don't make it worth it to me when other Zelda games had far more momorable tracks through out with the same quality as those stand outs.
