It's not free because you're literally paying in order to access those games.  You get more for your money, sure, but that's because it's a service. It's completely different than Club Nintendo that is offered for games you bought anyway (and also for buying their system).

You have a completely backwards way of thinking about this.

If I give my friend €50 and he gives me €100 in return then I have just gotten €50 for free.

Simple logic. Of course I don't like every free game on PS Plus, but there are enough games on it that I would play (but not buy normally).

There's no "entry fee" for Club Nintendo, because the only "fee" is that you are registering games you got. You don't buy games FOR Club Nintendo.

The entry fee is boring the fuck out of you with long register codes and boring surveys.

As for your part of the post I removed:

When I buy something that is normally much more expensive then I do consider what I saved to be "free money". But maybe that's just me and I can respect it if you think differently.

The surveys aren't half as boring if you copy+paste Sonic the Hedgehog fanfictions into all of the open-ended questions.

Yeah, for them to not sell as well as they should.

Sure Mario still sells, that's about it (on Wii U)...

Their marketing is horrible, they're incredibly out of touch. How is Club Nintendo working for them? Have their sales suddenly increased because of a better understanding of the customer? Give me a break.

No, to maximise profits and premium branding. No one said that their marketing is good. Have you ever even taken those surveys? They are not made to increase sales. Club Nintendo has nothing to do with marketing. It's part of research. They're made to increase quality. Club Nintendo is not a marketing machine. No survey was ever done with the expectation that it would somehow increase sales for something. All those firmware updates are how Club Nintendo is working for them.

That made me chuckle. :)

They always ask where you learned of the game, if you bought previous installments, if people in your family will play it, etc.

They're obviously trying to figure out how to advertise their games the best way. Maybe questions in USA are different than the ones in Europe, but your post is wrong on all accounts from my experience with the surveys.

Some of my friends really do that. I usually just keep it short, sweet and to the point. Not sure what kind of answer they're expecting when they ask me why I bought Super Smash Bros... I bought it because I want it... and they should know why I want it since they're the ones selling it to me.

Anyway my general point is that it's not like anyone is policing you to ensure your answers are 'correct'; you're free to bullshit all of them if it pleases you. Even with highly explicit Sonic fanfictions.

Now I'll know who to blame when Nintendo buys Sonic the Hedgehog and ships Sonic + Amy. :p

The main issue for me is that there are some items that are only available through Club Nintendo. Items that I would gladly pay money for. These items mostly never make it to Australia.

Other than that it's a free bonus so I can't really complain.

I've never bothered with Club Nintendo for various reasons!

I wouldn't complain about club nintendo at all if it weren't that the offerings in Europe and Japan are infinitely better than the token bullshit they roll out in America.
