Monster Hunter won't help the wii u. The Japanese won't care about a bigger and prettier version of the same game.

Nah I actually believe nintendo will try to do something next holiday because having just zelda is going to make 2016 jap holiday terrible(unless they bundle mario maker and splatoon fr a great price(then it could do holiday 2013 numbers)

I think it's much more likely they'd do something to boost 3DS sales. Especially if we are talking 2016 holiday here...


3DS has delta emerald or pokemon Z for 2016.:P

Actually now that I look back at it, Wii U is following a similar trajectory as Wii did in Japan just on a smaller scale. Wii peaked in 2007, it's first full year, and had similar releases as Wii U in 2013, it's first full year. Then in 2008, sales dropped slightly just like Wii U in 2014 and both had 3 big hitting Nintendo franchises.

Wii 2007-Wii Fit, Mario Party 8, Mario Galaxy, Dragon Quest Swords vs Wii U 2013-Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Mario 3D World, Dragon Quest X

Wii 2008-Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing vs Wii U 2014-Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros

if they do a monster hunter 5 for wii u
then it could go over 1 million(530k at retail with tons of downloads(came free with mario kart 8 in europe techinically)

Yes it's possible that MH5 could do 1 million on Wii U if its exclusive but a 1 million seller isn't going to shift a ton of units and Capcom would never go along with it because they would be missing out a ton of sales by not putting it on 3DS where the fanbase already is. Monster Hunter 4+4G is close to 6 million and could go over 7 million lifetime once we figure in western sales. Capcom is not willing to lose those type of sales by putting the next mainline entry on a console with a low install base. The only way Capcom would consider putting it on Wii U is if Nintendo pays them enough to cover the lost 5 million or so sales and Nintendo would be dumb to spend that much money on a game that won't change Wii U's fortunes.
