According to them, they wanted to imitate the feeling you had with the original games... Yeeeah, Nintendo what the hell?

Would it be better if the online multiplayer was a free software update a month or two after the release?

Actually, if they're going to do that, they might as well apply that software update to NSMBU and 3D World right now!

That would be fine.  It's just their games already take so long to make these days...

Honestly, I can't tell the difference.

There's more delays these days cos of the complexity of HD development versus Wii development.

Real life friends are a last gen feature. ;)

Mario is pretty much specifically a 1-player adventure game, at least the 3D games. what would online multiplayer serve? I mean I'm just imagining playing Sunshine or Mario 64 with other people and I don't see much of a point

3D World might make sense, but the traditional 3D Mario Adventures games are meant (in my my mind) historically and presently to be unqiue individual experiences

Mario platformers  for home consoles should have online multiplayer for now on if they already have local multiplayer. Smash Bros. for Wii U is a fighting game that runs on a 60 fps with 1080p resolution and it plays relatively well online. NSMBU and 3D World has 60 fps as well but is only 720p. There is no excuse for the next multiplayer Mario game on home console to lack online multiplayer. They can make new levels to compensate the lag or allow random match-ups to connect only if connection is decent. I do like the ghost data from 3D World and wish for that to continue in the 2D games.

I wouldn't boycott or look down at future NSMB or 3D World games that have no online multiplayer but I think it would show how lazy and stubborn the developers are for not trying to include it. If it takes too long to have a working online multiplayer mode, they can always promise to have a  free software update for it a month or so after release. With how buggy some online modes are this gen, customers will probably be used to waiting for decent online now. Plus, Mario games always have great single player so people have something to play with while they wait.

Do you think its time for future Mario games to have online multiplayer if they're from the NSMB or 3D World series?

I prefer playing with others in person. Online is vastly over rated.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Me too. But I want to have more options.

Yea, online would have made the already awesome experience even better!

ehhhhhhhh. Give or take, I don't really care all that much. Perhaps to be able to play with my brother and nephiew or something, but often playing with strangers is just annoying lol.

Can it be done? I'm quite sure it can, without doubt. Although, a lag spike could cause a hell of an issue on some M3DW levels, the ones where the floor switches comes to mind. Guess we'll see what the future holds :D

NSMB and 3d world really aren't suited to online play. You need to be in slapping range of your buddy for when they run ahead forcing you to be bubbled and certainly if they knock you to your doom.

They would have to rework how the multiplayer worked for online multiplayer to be a good idea. It just doesn't translate well into those games, as it currently stands, even if you only play online with people you know. It would be a unplayable broken nightmare with strangers.

Reminder that Rayman Legends doesn't support online multiplayer.

But picking on Nintendo is the cool thing to do so carry on. Although I was under the impression that picking on Ubisoft was also cool, maybe people think that's been played out already.
