Wow this is funny, I remember all the comments that said wait til they launch in China.

Yeah. People say some really silly things sometimes...  funny indeed.

Wow you are deflecting really hard.

Do you suppose that Microsoft is dropping the price in response to PS4 preorders being high?

Oh, give it a rest will you. I'm not deflecting anything.  I couldn't care less about this.

You obviously think its a big deal.

The official sales of the ps4 and ONE in China will be minimal.   This wont change that.

Do you suppose that Microsoft is dropping the price in response to PS4 preorders being high?

No.  In response to their own OFFICIAL sales being low.

Can you also please define "high"

Someone had made the observation that Microsoft may have keep the price up until now because they didn't really have any competition.   You could almost say that they were the top console in China by default.  Now enter competition.   Regardless of how the Xbox One is selling now, China is a huge untapped market for them and they acknowledged the importance of being their first.  With Sony poised to enter the market next month and with the realtively low sales you cited, isn't it possible that current preorder levels may be on track to eclipse their sell through in China, and as a result, took measure to make the price of their own console more competitive.   So in this instance, 'high' simply means outpacing what Xbox One is currently selling.

Microsoft wants to secure their position in China at all costs. The could sell XBones there for 150$ if they needed to, but they'll hold that massive market by any means necessary.

Why would they need to do that? They can just find some hacked e-mails from Sony with some anti-China sentiment and PS4 will be guaranteed to fail.

I'm sure this was the pLan from the start. I'm amazed at how many gaming journalist don't have common business sense. MSFT probably went for high margins early and are now lowering the price as competition enters the market.

I just wanna know something quickly, are you that true_fan from N4G?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

So not actually "high" then

Thanks.

And no it isn't a huge untapped market, they are capped on how many they are allowed to sell for one thing.

Yeah its hard to say exactly what a high number would be.  I really don' t have any reference to point to.  Anyway, I think its a mistake to assume that the PS4 will sell at the same levels as Xbox One.   Think about it this way:  PS4 sales in Japan aren't high.  But they are higher by a factor of about 20 than the Xbox One.  I get the impression that Microsoft felt that it had no choice but to lower the price especially when the competition is cheaper and has a better track record over all.  I think they were right to do so.  I feel that they should have don it sooner and I believe that their deal with SMG is hrmful to their asperations in China.

Damn, MS has been going hard lately.

If PS runs away with China...dear God. This kinda reminds me of Nintendo vs. Sega when Genesis lowered its price below SNES. This is getting interesting...

The PS4 was really over priced to begin with. MS were just fleasing the early adopters like they did in the rest of the world with the Xbox launch. You'd be mad to buy a future MS console within the first 6 months - 1 year of release.

After this big price cut the PS4 is still cheaper. They must be fearful of the upcoming PS4 release. Would have been stupid to have their flagship console more expensive than a Vita and a PS4 combined.

2,899 RMB = US$469.

Isn't that a lot for Chinese?

Yea both are rather high but I'm willing to bet China has a tax on the systems coming in.

I guess those people don't understand the inherent risks of early adopting and ever-fluctuating market conditions. Besides, they had the benefit of time. They had access to the console for those 6 months - year. Surely one could argue that is worth the price disparity that a year might bring.

That said, the problem is that in China, there is a serious lack of content due to censorship laws. The price should reflect this.
