MS announced 10M shipped (soon), so the next milestone Sony would announce is 20M to make Microsoft's announcement look weak.

Well they better do it pretty soon or people's expectations for them selling 20 Million by the end of the year will be over estimated.

If they don't announce 20 Million shipped by At least next week, then they are either not going to announce the milestone or not going to sell 20 Million by the end of the year.

They haven't announced shipped numbers usually.  I think them announcing 20 Million sold through in early Jan will have bigger impact than announcing shipped numbers.

No matter how they announce it, it will have a big impact.

Last year they announced their official numbers after December remember ? At the beginning of January : Q4. I guess they will do the same don't you think ?

he was saying they will announce it as soon as they hit the Milestone. So as soon as they put the 20th Million Unit on a ship they will sound the alarm to announce the milestone. However they can do it however they want to, seems they wouldn't want to hold that one in, that's a great milestone and why hold it back?

What he's saying is a supposition. I understand what you are trying to say but if it was me, I would wait Q4 to announce the biggest number instead of giving an "almost at" or "very soon" and just three weeks earlier...

The number they showed at PSX was just over 14m.  So I'll guess that they'll hit 15m by the end of the year.

what does this number represent?

Units sold through would be my guess.  This was at the end of the montage right before Layden came out on stage and said PS4 is the fastest selling console of all time.

That's only where they cut off the video at the beginning, there was no sign that that's the final figure they'd reached by PSX. PS4 had shipped 13.5 million by the end of September, there's no way retailers would be ordering that many if they weren't going to sell that number at least by the end of October.

IMO VgChartz is under tracked, which makes sense because of a number of factors, like VG doesn't even have PS4 at 10M when Sony announced they'd sold well in excess of 10 million back in August. When Driveclub launched there were two other major releases, but the sales dropped compared to the previous week when Shadow of Mordor launched, SoM was a pretty big seller, was still on the markey, yet despite there being 4 new games on the market and a highly anticipated 1st party exclusive the numbers still dropped like a stone.

COD AW sold a million more on PS4 than XBox One, according to VGChartz, but the rise in hardware sales was nowhere near as big as Xbox One, which makes no sense.

17M seems like a minimum at this point, obviously sales hadn't reached some milestone that Sony felt they wanted to share, my guess is that they now want to wait until they hit 20M, as it has more of an impact from a marketing POV than coming out and announcing figures every 5 million units sold.

By the end of this year I think PS4 will have sold 20M at least, if not 21-22M, but I guess we'll see.

This: we have to keep in mind that Sony announced the 13M figure 2 weeks after it was public knowledge (which was after it was already accomplished).

PS4 over 17m, XB1 over 10m, WiiU still below 8m.

So you actually believe that the WiiU has sold less than about 70K units between november 30th and december 13th worldwide...?

WiiU is overtracked by around 300k by November 30th, so yes.

PS4 - 16.7 million

Xbox One - 9.5 million

Wii U - 8 million

i don't think you read my OP properly. We have 2 weeks since the last numbers updated on here. I think both consoles sold more than you've said in that 2 weeks for sure. So you must be mistaken?

Just going by NPD, on the final week we have, the PS4 (using VGC numbers) should be 15.88 million at the minimum, and that is not assuming overtracking in Europe/ROTW. Xbox One would be about 8.89 million, assuming no further overtracking in other regions, and the Wii U would be at 7.81 million, assuming no overtracking.

So in 2 weeks, just going by those numbers, I assume that the PS4 will gain 820k in 2 weeks, the Xbox One gains 610k, and Wii U gains 190k.

Looks right to me. I guess the PS4 and Xbox can get an extra 100k, and the Wii U number is better than the first 2 weeks of November that are currently overtracked, so I'm giving the system the benefit of the doubt.

I guess I change my answer to:

PS4 - 16.8 million

Xbox One - 9.6 million

Wii U - 8 million

Also the next week will see a huge boost of sales for all consoles anyway.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

That explains SF5 exclusive and the new deals where Sony is "giving away" PS4s just like Microsoft.

My guesses for 2014 are:

XONE: ~11mi sold - 12 mi shipped

PS4: ~15mi sold - 16 mi shipped
