Easily the NES.. Zelda 1 and 2 aren't bad games, but they just feel meh compared to other console Zelda games!

clearly you're young or just haven't played through "The Legend of Zelda" for NES because the game is anything but 'meh'. unless your only subject for critera are graphics. That is arguably the most pure funadmental Zelda with great puzzles, combat for its time. I am pretty sure LOZ was the first game with built in save too for a console. And its graphics do hold up! you can pop it in today and understand what you're seeing and what your objectives are (to some degree) with a very large world  (comparatively)

I didn't really grow up with the original Zelda, so that's probably why.

NES.
The original has not aged well, and Zelda 2 was awful even for its time.

I would not go that far. I think it was very good for its time just does not hold up. I wish they would attempt the 2D Sidescroller style again though.

I suppose to be fair I didn't live through the NES era, as I was born in January 1989, and started gaming on the SNES, but I've still played quite a bit of NES, and while there were plenty of games I could get into and enjoy, like the original Mario trilogy, Contra, and Gradius, even compared to the standards of other NES games I found Zelda II nigh unplayable.

Zelda II is a great game. I really enjoyed playing it back then and enjoyed playing it on Wii as well.

The NES shouldn't even be ON there because without Zelda 1, there isn't even a poll to vote on.

I can't believe people actually voted for GCN. Is it because of Wind Waker's cartoony graphics? I thought we settled this with Twilight Princess.

Because WW was easy as hell. Not enough dungeons, easy puzzles, easy enemies too many hearts. Same for TP except it had a lot of dungeons.

I was being facetious. (though WW is my favorite Zelda)

The DS.
But on home consoles the Wii and the gamecube share the worst 3D Zelda (Twilight Princess).

Weird, Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game ever

a question: Was it your first one?

Nope! Ocarina of time was

the original Legend of Zelda has not aged well? are you insane, that it was one of the best aged games from the 8 bit era in terms of playability today. it's timeless. the top down view of Hyrule works perfectly and that game has so many innovative features that are used today that it doesn't feel 'old'. could not agree with you any stronger than I do

It's been suggested. :P

It's aged better than most 8 bit games, but I still felt it was too oblique at points.

The NES might be the genuine answer, but it gets a pass from me because without those the rest don't exist. Therefore the answer seems to be DS, with GBA and GBC as close candidates also. The votes for the Wii amuse me - as far as I'm concerned it's between Wii and N64 for the BEST Zelda line-up, not the worst.

Again, I think all of the main Zelda games are good, but just varying degrees of goodness.

Agreed.

For me, Ocarina is still the best Zelda, but Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess were excellent in their own right, and Majora drags N64 down a bit, leaving them around equal in my book.
