Forums - Gaming Discussion - Realistic or Cartoony graphic style - which do you prefer and why?

?

Cartoony 209 65.52%

Realistic 110 34.48%

Total:319

I've seen this debate come up very often in VGC threads hence I created this thread to see which style has more fans. I know it also depends on the fanbase of each console but I thought it would still be interesting to see the reasons for your choices.

It doesn't matter to me.

no option for both?

I guess "cartoon-y" graphics. They look better much much longer than "realistic". 90% of realistic games look like shit 5yrs later vs. cartoony games which can stay decent looking forever.

Games like Wind Waker, Dragon Quest 8, Okami, and many others will look good much longer/have aged much better than the realistic games of their time.

I can see the appeal of ultra realistic as it can show off the power of your system and thats fine, but Ive never cared for that sort of thing.

Depends on the game really. I enjoy all types of games, they can be cartoony (Dishonoured, Guilty Gear) or realistic(Metro, Crysis, Tekken). The art style just has to complement the vision and tone of the game.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Does the game play well? If yes, then I don't care.

Amine - Cell sahded.
Serious action games like (gears / uncharted) - Realistic.

But it actually depends on the game.

It depends on the game.

Mario = Cartoony (and thankfully hasn't strayed from it)
Sonic = Cartoony (unfortunately has strayed from it)
Zelda = Realistic (unfortunately has strayed from it)
Halo = Realistic (and thankfully hasn't strayed from it)
