Change the channel

Sony may not be saying a whole lot about PlayStation Vue right now, but it’s clear that the television service is pivotal to its future plans. The manufacturer mentioned as part of its recent mid-term strategy report that it intends to extract additional cash out of consumers by creating worthwhile services – and alongside the likes of PlayStation Now sits its cable cutting alternative.

From the information that we have available, the forthcoming platform sounds like an amalgamation of both catch-up and live TV, which will integrate all of your viewing needs under a single, PlayStation Store-esque user interface. It’s also already in beta in New York, as a handful of PlayStation Plus members on Reddit have uploaded their invitation emails.

According to the initial press release, over 75 channels will be available as part of the test, including CBS, Fox, NBC, and Viacom. There’s no word on how much this will cost, but the platform holder’s said that it’s coveting a “fair and competitive” fee. We’re sure that we’ll find out all of its plans shortly, as the whole initiative is set to launch in early 2015. That sounds soon, doesn’t it?

This is interesting as another option for cord-cutters, but personally I couldn't care less about TV. God, theoretically they could implement the voice command stuff XB1 uses for surfing channels.

Have they released the price yet?

Yeah why don't they say "View" instead of "Vue". 

OT: I live in Ireland so this will likely never get support here but either way I watch very little TV and that I do watch I don't feel like turning my PS4 onto watch it lol. But it's good for those who like this sort of thing. 

This shouldn't be casually overlooked as another streaming service.

It seems to have the potential to be the holy grail type service which is the best of both worlds.

I'm sure in a few years, there will be 3 or 4 major alternatives to the big cable companies and if Sony plays their cards right by utilizing their connections inside the Sony movie studios and partnerships- this Vue service could be one of the first and best solutions available.

Everyone dreams for the option to choose ESPN, discovery channel, HBO, etc without the over inflated services, fees, and bs which comes along with every major cable company.

Hope things go smooth, I dropped Comcasts TV services long ago, and have been waiting for OTT IPTV service. If the blackout BS did not happen on local sporting events I would never do live TV service again, but until that this is the next best thing.

So what would you turn on to watch TV?

I just ask, because since about 2010 my TV has not been turned on unless either the PS3, PC, 360, or now PS4 was turned on first.

couldnt care less but yeah if they make money and if people like watching tv and movies its good for sony

if there was something i want to watch usually a football match, i turn on my tv and select the channel. i have about 50 channels free to air and only watch about 5 of them. i also have sky but only use that for the sports matches that are not free to air.
