Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo shouldn't release a new console earlier than PS5.

In theory yes it should come out later so it is closer to competition specs.

However I think they will be forced to come out earlier because the sales of Wii U will vanish.

I think they got themselves stuck between generation with the Wii U unfortunately. So their next console assuming it comes out 2017 will be at least 2 years before PS5. They would need to predict what power PS5 will have and try to be reasonable close to it.

However knowing Sony and Microsoft they will see what the next Nintendo console has and just double it lol.

And what Nintendo to do to about 2020. with the Wii U when around 2016. they will release all its largest IPs!?

It's called s sequel. They happen sometimes. Mario Galaxy 2, another Skyward Sword after Twilight Princess, Prime 1-3, etc.

I hear it's pretty popular.

We will have probably one more Mario 3D, maybe Sunshine HD, we already have two Zeldas, Metroid will come probably in 2016. Nintendo will not making any sequels already released games for Wii U.

And what about sales!?

I cant believe you really think nintendo should be kept in the Wii U console (probably the weakest-selling Nintendo console) 8 years before  successor, despite they  releasing new consoles at about every 5 years.

For me It's the same unrealistic as some are saying that Nintendo needs to relase new console next year.

They said wont release next console until Wii U owners are satisfied, they also need to prepare hardware and software, I say 2017. is safe bet.

The only thing you're talking about is higher specs, which to me sounds like you expect Nintendo to do a WiiU2, which obviously would be a bad decision and hardly Nintendo's strength.
WiiU profits only fall when Nintendo is abandoning the console, which they usually do quickly. If they learned something from the transition from last to this gen, they would develop cross gen games (pretty much like they already did with Twilight Princess).

Also why would MS and Sony already show new hardware, when their own barely launched. Just to piss off Nintendo? They would harm only their own console sales with that.

Trying to create a second Wii-like success should be their priority and not giving a console life support that will probably never turn profitable at all.
A lot seem to forget that the thing needed R&D to even exist, which was only possible due to the huge profits they got from Wii and DS sales.

If Nintendo wants third party support, they need similar specs. What do you thinks more reasonable, creating something completely new and hoping it catches fire like the Wii or making a console that has comparable specs so you get third parties and super powerful HD Nintendo games?

And announcing the PS2 over two years before release in order to sh*t all over Sega didn't hurt the PS1 or the PS2, so why exactly wouldn't both companies be on board to cut the legs from Nintendo when its new console could steal sales away from them or create an XB360 situation?

They have a machine that's pulling in profits that are actually on the rise. Why rush into killing those profits on a machine that will likely be subject to smear campaigns from machines that WILL be more powerful if only because tech is evolving rapidly?

Which is exactly why the next Nintendo console has to wait until the PS5/XB specs are hammered out. Who's going to buy a new Nintendo console when it's more expensive than the PS4, has a smaller library, and know a significantly more powerful system is coming out? The media will jump all over it calling it a failed, DOA console just like they did with the Dreamcast and the Wii U.

If Nintendo releases a new console early and Sony/Ms claim their new system will be X amount more powerful in a couple years, Nintendo's console will f*cking die. Nobody will want to develop for the weaker console, no one will want the weaker games, and the PS5 would likely have a better power to price ratio.

So you're basically saying that Nintendo can't start R&D for their next console before the specs of the PS5 and nextbox are announced?

I get where you're coming from but I don't think you've thought about it thoroughly enough.

Did being released over a year early hurt the PS1, PS2 or Xbox 360? History has shown arriving early is normally a good thing. Also Dreamcast comparisons are flawed because Sega simply run out of money. If they hadn't the system probably would have outsold the gamecube and Xbox.

Finance wise, Nintendo has started making money off the Wii U. No one is saying release the successor now and I personally think 2016 is too early aswell. 2017 however would be perfect. They can't ride the Wii U into oblivion because they'll come out the otherside with a very bleak future in the console space with their only hope of success coming through software sales. Where has the underdog ever made significant ground by releasing after the popular choice?

Tech wise, Nintendo doesn't need to wait for the others to release their specs to be within the ball park they simply need to communicate with 3rd parties and manage those expectation against what they can afford. Because of diminishing returns, I don't see it being hugely important whether Nintendo match the PS5 specs, they just need to easily trump PS4 and X1 by a fair margin.

Nintendo still wont get the third party support Sony and MS will have. They just don't do business like MS and Sony does...

Yeah, you're 100% wrong. Third parties would jump all over any console that sells well and is easy to develop for, especially if it shares the same architecture and power as the competition. Coincidentally, Nintendo is looking for designers to make a powerful console that's easy to use.

Nintendo exclusive games AND comparable multiplats? It's pretty much a lock for best of gen if they go that route.

Didnt happen with the GC. It had great third party support at first, but that didnt last...

Problem is the most powerful 3rd party titles were playstation exclusive before anyone even announced their system (GTA, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Tekken, Pro evolution). The industry today is completely different now, Devs don't go exclusive just ''because''... Hence why every 3rd party exclusive nowadays has underlying businesss implications (tombraider, street fighter)

Also never forget that the gamecube came a year after the the PS2...

Well, to be honest Nintendo received a shit load of criticism in 2013 for mistakes that PS4/XONE also made. If it is hard to fight the Twins, it is even harder to fight their pre-launch hype, it is just too big.

As an example i can offer Diablo 3, which caused similar situation. There were good games like torchlight or sacred that were ignored because they were not the "Diablo 3 people had in their minds". In the end, even Diablo 3 could not live to his hype, it was just too big of a expectation.

That does not mean Nintendo has to do everything the same as the HD Twins or go after the same audience, what would required a lot of work.

Whenever they decide to release a new console is good, and it is certain to sell better than WiiU...unless they decide to call it WiiWee...

1. Nintendo fans, People wanting better graphics, resolution and fps over PS4 games at the time.
2. General public aren't aware of consoles way ahead of their actual release like we are.
3. If there is significant time between Nintendo and the others, that would work in their favour similar to the PS1 arriving years ahead of the N64 and gaining tons of momentum before it even saw the light of day.
4. Devs would happily develop on a system more power then the PS4/X1 which will be Nintendo's only competitors on arrival. Once a fair userbase is achieved, Devs aren't gonna abandon them just because more power boxes are arriving in the following year. Similar architecture will ensure this. Nintendo's system will just be the low end PC setting (still look amazing and blow PS4 out the water), versus PS5's mid-range settings (notably better only to the graphcis whore)
