i dont understand how comments like yours come to be.

its not about how stable nintendo is, its about how (un)successful the wii u is/will be.

Maybe you should read the OP again

well.. at least two things everybody seems to agree in this discussion: for the next device, Nintendo needs, essentially:

- better branding/marketing campaing

- a device that offer easy development for third parties

( and even with that they may not feel interested in develop, see the example of the Vita/3ds. Vita is a more powerful machine but developers really doesn´t seem to care because it´s selling poorly)

Widespread disappointment among forum goers who don't really represent the general consumer and non-Nintendo gamers who likely would have found a way to be "disappointed" regardless of what direction the game took.

Who the hell was disappointed with Mario 3D World? Absolutely amazing game! More than made up for the disappointment of 3D Land.

Dreamcast actually sold great its first year, it just was not profitable whatsoever and that coupled with Sega's already financial problems and the emergence of competitor systems for that generation killed it

Sega and Nintendo comparisons never make sense because even if Nintendo struggles with a console they have never been in debt like Sega was; quite the opposite- they are far in the positive in terms of cash on hand vs borrowed money; they don't need to borrow money.

also Sega never had the IP power that Nintendo does. even Nintendo arguably strongest IP of the 90s (Sonic) was pretty weak in popularity compared to a number of Nintendo franchises

at any rate the 3DS is selling well enough for it to not matter THAT much if the Wii U struggles

they should work a deal with Sony where they produce games exclusively on the playstation but Sony get a very tiny cut of the money.

Win - Win Nintendo has higher profit margin they no longer have to support a hardware system, Sony gets a small cuts and gains a younger fanbase from Nintendo they will be buy other games eventually.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

What? WiiU is only less than 200,000 behind the DreamCast with money in the bank.

So according to VG chartz numbers, the Wii U has a good chance of passing the Dreamcast next week, then we can put tne whole Dreamcast thing to bed.

Thats what his statement aludes to though, the fact that the dreamcast was uncucessful along with of host of other decisions by sega led to them leaving the console market. Nintendo is not in the same situation the wiiu will obviously sell a nice bit more than the dreamcast and anyone can tell that so this thread is just gawwwbage.
