Things are getting a little heated in here. Let's keep on topic and keep the generalizations out of it please.

What's getting on my nerves is the suggestion that "Old school design" is a bad thing... my game of the year is Wolfenstein so far, definitely one of the best shooters this year and was awesome, guess what it got criticised for... old school game design.

Unfortunately I feel a lot of gaming sites want to be designers, and have forgotten to just enjoy the games..

@cone, you were hottier as a dog, your human form isn't that much sexier. I hope that don't count as mod criticizing :)

Wait they are anti sony because they don't share the same opinion with you or any other gamers on sony platform? What logic is that. The person who did that video, wasn't impressed with the game. It happen. you cant get everyone to love the game.

Logic ? What logic, I'm talking about their tradition, history. They are pro MS.

That if they don't give the score you agree with , then they are anti sony? You cannot expect all reviewers to share teh same tase as you ro other gamers on  sony platform, MS platform and even nintendon platform.  There will always be people who prefer xbox games more, nintendo games more or even sony games more. Also every game is reviewed by someone else, therefore the scores will be  different and the way they reviewe will also be differerent. They have given lots of good scores for sony games as welll. Just taht this generation the games to them is not that great . nothing wrong with that .

I'll try to find the thread but I believe that a while back (several years) someone did a metascore of eurogamer scores and there was like a persistent 20 point difference between ps3 and 360 games. And was always above the metacritic average on 360 and below on ps3.

ie: if the metacritic of a 360 game was 80, i believe they would give a 86-91. The calculations showed consistent 5-10 point above average scores.
and if the ps3 game was 80, the calculations showed an 20~ ish point under rating.

I guess until I find the thead though, this is all heresay, but it was done using calculations from the top 50 games and review score vs meta. Basically a trend of rating 360 games 30 points higher. However, games that tended to be reviewed by mainland europe would rate the ps games better, while uk would rate badly.

Allow me to repost this exquisite comment made on the Eurogamer thread:

"We only have to look at The Crew, Assassins Creed: Unity and Halo the Master Chief Collection to know that this year publishers have really been pushing their luck when it comes to releasing games that are a little bit broken"

Let's have a look then:

The Crew: 8/10 Eurogamer:

"No game has mined that cultural seam quite so authentically or with such all-encompassing ambition. It's a game that requires and occasionally enforces patience, but like all great road trips it's about the journey, not the destination."
Assassin's Creed Unity: 7/10 Eurogamer:

"As it is, mild improvements in traversal and combat are quickly overwhelmed by the creaking systems onto which they have been grafted. Revolutionary Paris is one of the most beautifully realised environments in a series that has had its fair share of them, but the game you play doesn't really do it justice."

Yes, this was a SEVEN.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection: 9/10 Eurogamer:

"The Collection is an instantaneous embrace of past and present that combines gaming's powerful sense of nostalgia with its perpetual arms race of processing and graphical power. It is part of a growing appreciation of the past in a medium which until recently was resolutely forward-looking. Proust would bloody love it."

Those publishers must be quaking in their boots, I mean, yes, I know this is how the world works but sometimes the hypocrisy can grow quite tiring.

Tldr: They might as well release it now for a 7/10, maybe pushing an 8/10. 6/10 at the worst if Eurogamer is out to prove a point, whatever that may be.

A game whose online doesn't even work get a 9/10? Well there goes any credibility Eurogamer had.

Sure maybe it is a valid one. The problem is when someone takes a broken game like Halo MCC and gives it a 9/10 I automatically don't trust anything you say. So maybe he they are right but I'll need to hear it from someone with far more credibility then eurogamer.

I find it pretty amusing how many people are acting like the media is just trying to unfairly butcher this game before release lol

It's absolutely excruciating watching "gameplay" of this title. I mean there's a fucking QTE/button prompts for something like a character doing a 3.2.1 countdown. Like seriously? You know it's bad when you gotta push triangle for a character to say 3....triangle, 2....etc.

Honestly. I get the impression that the guys who made this realized at some point that there's way too much cutscene compared to gameplay so they just threw in button prompts everywhere to make the player feel like they're actually contributing to the experience.

Mindboggling

It's meant to keep you engaged throughout the entire game, even whilst you are not in actual control (ie a cutscene). Would you rather the character just say 3 2 1 grenade without you doing anything? Maybe you prefer that, and thats fine, but I like to feel engaged in a video game and the fact that they are actually letting you participate even in a cutscene is absolutely fantastic for me. Now instead of putting the controller down and watching the cutscene you can actually "play" a cutscene, even if it is just a button prompt.
