This... is surprising. Both that Nintendo would want to greenlight a new Mario movie, as well as Sony Pictures making it. Obviously Sony Pictures is not Sony Computer Entertainment, and collaborations like this happen all the time in many industries, but most people will admit that it's an interesting development.

Apparently it will be an animated movie, and not a live action one (thankfully). I'm curious to see what will come of this. In any case it's in line with Nintendo's stated recent desire to branch their IPs off into other territories beyond games.

WTF I was looking into sony pictures movies because of this thread and they're making a Rollercoaster Tycoon movies? Are you kidding me sony?

Anyway I could have sworn Sony's done some movie with Nintendo related stuff in before, maybe i'm mistaken.

Okay, Sony is not just a games company, it has many departments all tied together as well as working alone too. The movies side is very successful and have numerous excellent animation studios under it's ownership. Just because they are rivals in games doesn't mean they don't work together in other departments. (Like like Sony Viao laptops have Windows on them).

This said, it's up to them and Nintendo to do this and I'm sure based on how good and popular many 3D animated films are, I see no reason why they can't try at least.

So what if it's Sony Pictures lol :D it's not like it's Playstation Pictures or something like that it has nothing to do with that brand.
