Yes. They should have slashed the price to $100 and sold every single PS4 in stock. Then they would have won easily. The fools. Any legitimate business should known that profit takes a back seat to giving forum fans bragging rights.

Just because Mcdonalds has a firesale on hamburgers doesn't mean their burgers are better than Wendy's, they are doing just fine thank you.

of course it's not.. but losing momemtum to your competitor matters....thus sometimes affecting your sales profit.

Maybe I´m alone on this one but I think even a pricedrop wouldn´t have changed this months´ NPD result by much. Imo Microsoft needed to win this NPD really badly so even if Sony dropped the PS4´s price to 349$ MS would´ve undercut them by another 50$.

Cutting price affects sales profit too, and that's 100% guaranteed.

Why should they 'win' NPD?

They sold about 300k less at $70 more, they made more money per unit.
They're happy.

Sony don't need to do anything at all. You can lower the cost of more or less anything against its competitor in any market not just consoles and sales will go up. Firstly, Sony will wait and see what Microsofts stance is regarding price after the Xmas rush is over. If The Xbox goes back to normal price in January then you'd expect normality to be resumed in the PS4 starting to slightly outsell the Xbox again in America.

Lets not forget that the PS4 is trouncing the Xbox in way way more countries than its not (hence the current guess of 7 million more sales).

Sony I imagine would only start to contemplate changes if A: Microsoft introduced a permanent price drop and B: if that permanent price drop began to seriously impact sales of the PS4 over a continued period of time. Winning one month of the year in countries you can probably count on one hand does not mean disaster is looming now does it.

I am an early x1 adopter and I am pissed that they are giving their console away in less than a years time. Even with that its not like they blew Sony away, estimates are indicating a 300k-400k monthly lead in the US. F*** Microsoft, I will never buy another console from them at launch ever again

It's all about how much loss a company can afford to win one month in one country.
