Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has Sony's arrogance cost them november npd?

Did sony do enough to win november NPD?

Nah 291 38.96%

Yes 130 17.40%

They can't lower their p... 242 32.40%

xbox one is the future of the USA. 82 10.98%

Total:745

I wouldn't say they were being arrogant, they were being conservative, to do what microsoft did would have cost them them 60 million if we are to believe the 1200k sold XB1 and closer to 120 million if you consider that microsoft was giving away free games with each bundle. Sony is not in a position to be slashing their profits

Yeah, it would be pretty alarming to see Sony follow suit every time Microsoft makes a move. Because Microsoft did this because they felt they had to. Sony are not in that position yet. They're doing what they should be doing, and that's continuing to sell well, and make an impressive profit for their investors without devaluating their brand.

It'll be interesting to see what happens from January onwards, mainly for Xbox One's sales, when Microsoft will allegedly raise the price of the console again.

"And therefore those skilled in war bring the enemy to the field of battle and are not brought there by him."

PS4 still remains as popular as ever, without following Microsoft's lead and devaluing their product.
So they learned something important here as well.
When people have seen Xbox One being sold for so little with all the free games + store promo cards, how will they react to buying it at full price in the following months? That's something that both MS and Sony will be interested in seeing, I'm sure.

It's quite possible that pushing the price back up will have a negative effect on sales.

Personally though I think the momentum will continue regardless of the price returning to normal.

I cannot say if it will or won't but if MS has price advantage still, i would not count them out.

The resoning comes from the november consumers. According to the poll that was done a little while back, a good majority of purchases were done by parents for their kids, while ps4 was mainly bought by adults for themselves.

Adults can buy consoles year round. Kids cannot.

You might have noticed over the years, but this is one of the main factors why nintendo systems are considered to be "holiday sellers", because even a great majority of them are purchased by parents. It also goes hand in hand with the average demographic. I believe nintendo was 8-13, ms was 11-17 and ps was 22-31 or something like that.

Additionally, it coincides with how in the past with 360 and ps3, 360 always won holidays but was outsold by a great margin during the year. It's the reason why ps3 was able to make such a comeback, despite being more expensive last gen as well.

Microsoft can afford to absorb losses... Sony can't.

Silly argument that I see keep popping up. Do people really think that MS had a price drop to just chuck money away? No, they did it to make their install base bigger and therefore make more money on software sales  and live subs.

What Sony have to decide is that if they drop their price, how much would they need to so that profit from increased install base outweights the loss they would from profit from console pric drop. It seems that its not time for a price drop.

For MS a price drop is more beneficial and an easier decision to make.

This also has nothing to do with arrogance and anybody with a slight understanding of business can see why.

The thread title is still very baity. It is phrased in a way that clearly means that Sony were arrogant and the question is was this arrogance the reason for their loss this month.

Title should be Were Sony being arrogant in not changing for Nov?

Was it arrogance, maybe? I don't view it as that, they wanted to make a profit and their gaming department probably did make a bigger profit than MS this holiday since . Also, they still sold really well without dropping the price.

Sony will win this generation i think that's not in doubt. So do they want to win with profits or just win on numbers of consoles sold in the USA.

On one hand I can see why us gamers want the "numbers" win, but in all honesty, they sold lots in November, and will be doing very well profit wise from it, why lose 60m+ on giving the console away just for a few hundred k console sales.

They were 12m down on USA last gen, this time it's going to be close, rest of the world its going to be heavily in favour of PS4, they don't need to worry, profit is better.

The title has been changed by mods and it is not baity.

I  gave my reasons why i think Sony arrogance got to them if you read the post.

Everyone can voice their thoughts right here in this thread about whether sony was being arrogant not to change the price.

I Put up a poll asking vgchartz whether they think sony has done all it could for november. Either you agree yes or no.

Praise the One.

They aren't arrogant. They simply aren't trying.

Who can blame them when they are selling the way they are.
