Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony + Nintendo Have A Deal For a Super Mario Movie

Wow, big surprise. From the Sony-North Korea leak:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=950587

Sony Pictures and Nintendo appear to have closed a deal for the animated feature film rights to the Super Mario Bros. video game franchise, according to a series of emails discovered in the massive trove of hacked Sony files recently leaked to the media.

“I am the proud father of mario the animated film [sic],” producer Avi Arad told Sony studio chief Amy Pascal in an email dated Oct. 23, 2014, with the subject line “Mario.” Arad then forwarded Pascal separate images of him with Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, the latter of which included the message, “Happy ceo, lets get together, it’s the mother load. [sic]”

Pascal forwarded that email to Tom Rothman, who heads up Sony Pictures subsidiary TriStar Pictures. “Avi closed Mario brothers,” she said. “Animated.”

I believe this as much as the EarthBound Forever leak.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

This is awesome news if true although I'm somewhat weary.

Should Nintendo collapse (god forbid) then I think it's wise for Sony to preemptively form a healthy relationship with the house that Mario built.

Honestly, who wouldn't wet themselves over Super Smash Bros PS6?

I think it's legit, Avi Arad is working on a few other things for Sony and has been pushing to get video game movies like Uncharted (the movie) off the ground. If it's a fake, someone did their homework.

Didn't Nintendo also say they planned on licensing out/creating more marketing oppurtunities for their characters?

A Mario movie as bad as the 1993 movie was could be a hit I think if it's CG animated.

Huh, that will be interesting to see where it goes. Always nice to see companies working together once a while

Now if only we can have a Metroid movie with Zero Suit Samus

how will nintendo collapse? they have a few billion in the bank and if worse comes to worse they become a software, toy making giant. their games would sell more on SOny + MS consoles and a shit ton more on ios android mobiles and tablets.

Nintendo will have trouble keeping consoles going but they will have no problem staying in a healthy state for a long long time.

Still waiting for Kaz's porn folder.

According to the leak, Amy Pascal, the head of Sony Pictures, apparently suggested Gendy Tarkavosky, the Samurai Jack and Star Wars Clone Wars guy. That would be really awesome.

That's one hell of a greeting for a blockbuster deal.

I'm not saying its happening soon. Pretty well aware of how they're doing financially and they definitely know how to efficiently extract profit from their products.  But the bolded is kind of what I'm banking on, I just think that the preference would be another Japanese company.

Your last sentence is absolutely agreeable though
