Forums - Nintendo Discussion - It's time to talk, once again, about voice acting in Zelda U.

Do you think Zelda U should be fully voice acted?

Yes 233 45.24%

No 282 54.76%

Total:515

I personally would hate voice acting. It wouldn't feel like Zelda anymore.

That being said, I would accept it, but only if everyone BUT Link talked. Link should always be a silent protagonist.

Well this is maybe just me going crazy, but somehow when I watched that gameplay video I just really noticed that game is not going to have voice acting. I just started noticing how Zelda-ish the game was starting to feel, and along with the Zelda feel came a feeling that there's no voice acting to be found here. I don't know why, don't ask me. But I really, really can't see it happening. Luckily I'm nowhere near as bothered by it as you are, especially how less story-driven this seems to be when compared to Skyward Sword and maybe Twilight Princess (only games where the lack of it slightly annoyed me).

None of that makes sense. No where in any footage shown so far has there been any interation where voice acting would typically be present. No footage that could in anyway be relevant to plot has been shown yet. Also, Aonuma has already confirmed cinematic cutscenes to be in the game that he hopes will "surpass those present in Hyrule Warriors."

Story-driven and cinematic Zelda games aren't going anywhere.

Those people saying "Link needs to be silent!" need to at least skim the op. He said that that's how it should be. Do it Metroid Prime 3 or Elder Scrolls style with a silent protagonist but voice everyone else. So people responding with this "argument" are basically admitting that they are knee-jerk reacting without reading.

I feel this is an area where the game is held back and needs addressed. Especially given Aonuma's statement before that cutscenes will play major role in this game's story.

I agree with practically everything. Though you can't really expect hardcore Nintendo fans to see it your way, they're so fucking conservative when it comes to everything. Everything has to be a tradition that MUST be upheld. That mindset is why most of Nintendo's IPs haven't really changed much since years gone by, whether for good or bad.

Agree with what the OP says and agree with this too.

I'm okay with Link being silent, but for God sake Nintendo, it's 2014.

Edit: To expand on what you said, this has been one of my biggest issues with Nintendo and their fanbase, which affect the games as well. They both are too comfortable and too rigid for traditional values in games. As a result, it's just more or less the same thing that has been produced by them as well. IMO.

Can you blame them though? When other Japanese companies went "out of tradition," they fucked up their games pretty badly... Look at Resident Evil for example, once the pinnacle of survival horror is now this average action game and the last thing we want is Nintendo going the same route with their beloved franchises

u shouldn't pick a debate with Zelda fans. seriously, they are most stubborn fanbase ever.
Zelda cycle prove this. they dont like good zelda they just like old zelda. anything old is good except something that clearly shit.

Dividing your post into bold and non-bold.

@bold: I said it myself, it's just a feeling I got from the game. It really makes no sense.

@non-bold: I really really hope that's the case, but I don't think this will be as story-driven as Skyward Sword.

Oh. I thought you were being sarcastic, as if the footage shown so far somehow make it obvious that there won't be any.

I don't see why they'd focus so much on impressive cutscenes, but not focus on a plot to use then in.

Yeah, I'm trying not to respond to people who seem to have not at least skimmed the OP, because they're bringing up things I addressed as though I didn't adress them.

But this would change so very little about the game.  Take TP or SS and insert voice for all but Link and what has changed?  Nothing.  And if the voices are well done, the game will be better for it.  And if the quality is up to Metroid Prime 3 or at least Xenoblade levels, I think it would be solid.

Well, it is a pretty big deal cause The Legend of Zelda has more than just one Iconic character... It has tons and giving all of them voices is a slipperly slope one way or the other and if done wrongly, like giving Zelda a terrible voice, it really would piss off a lot of the fanbase. I really do think this is a big deal considering how terrible Other M was and Cdi or Zelda Cartoon was. Sure, neither of those were really Nintendo but the risk is bigger than you think imo. Heck, if you gave every character in SS a voice which is including Fi, good luck with that annoying shit

I certainly won't buy the game without voice acting. It's something I am simply expecting from a full price AAA game in 2014.
