Forums - Politics Discussion - Michigan House Passed Bill Allowing EMTs To Refuse Treatment To Gay People.

FIT_Gamer said:
So helping someone in need because they are gay is a sin, but allowing someone to die that you have the means to help isn't? Seems legit.

I'm too tired/lazy to find the studies again, but i have done research on Americas health care versus the world community as well as issues like this regarding contraception and "religious protection". Plenty of studies show that folks who identify as agnostic or atheist actually know more about scripture than those who identify as memebers of a specific religion.

Religion is built on not asking questions and accepting faith on its face which goes against teh grains and basic concepts of knwoledge and education. I guess thats your answer as to why religion breeds ignorance in a nutshell.

Disgusting. Typical right-wing garbage.

"While the proponents of the bill cite less-offensive cases, such as Jewish butchers refusing to handle non-kosher meat or Christian pastors prohibited from donating to local homeless populations due to food safety rules, others point to subtler — and more dangerous — possible uses. These include pharmacists refusing to fill HIV prescriptions, or EMTs denying a gay person the right to live, said an ACLU of Michigan attorney to MLive."

Guys, the bill in question does not specifically allow EMT's to refuse treatment to homosexuals. The idea that this law will allow that is just something an ACLU attorney said. I rather doubt that that's the idea behind this bill, anyways.

Wow, that's such a terrible law. Gay people should protest about this.

It is truly sad that I have to clarify this but for all the people worrying about a "fascist Christian state"... here you go:

Absolutely NOTHING in the Bible would indicate for us Christians to do ANYTHING harmful, wrong, or unloving towards either fellow believers or non-believers. We are called to LOVE all as Christ loves us. Christ never told us to hate fellow humans. We are called to minister to the lost, to show love towards others even when they throw nothing but hate at us, and to live our lives focused on Christ.

If this law truly supports the concept of people refusing to give aid to someone simply because of their homosexuality, then it is NOT Christian. Please don't say it is. If your going to hate Christ and the body of Christ, at least understand what your hating and don't make up a bunch of nonsense. Christ wants us to pursue and love those who don't yet know HIM. How on earth would we be following Christ by allowing someone (intentionally) to die or be harmed (due to their homosexuality) knowing that they aren't saved? The loving thing to do would be to work your BUTT off to save their lives and minister to them in the process (or after). We all need Jesus and what could be gained by intentionally allowing someone to die prior to them accepting Christ as their savior?

The idea of someone "claiming" to be a Christian all the while refusing to save someone's life due to their sin would indicate that the person refusing to do the saving isn't truly saved by Christ him or herself. People have who have accepted Christ as their savior have their hearts CHANGED and they feel love towards others. This brings me to my last point.

Just because people SAY they are a Christian or just because some lawmakers SAY they believe in Christ or just because some laws are apparently BIBLICAL does not mean any of that is true. Christianity is NOT a culture thing. You are not born a Christian. No one on Earth is born with salvation. That is something you have to accept at some point in your life or choose to not accept it (via Jesus Christ). Don't assume everything crazy extremists do in the far right wing of the Republican party is tied in with ACTUAL FOUNDATIONAL Christian beliefs.

If this law truly is meant to deprive gays of aid, then it is simply not a true Christ focused law.

Then you need to manage your people a little better. The upright Christians have to address the rotters like Scott Lively (who's going to get crimes-against-humanity charges for his authoring Uganda's "kill the gays" law) or you all look bad.

While I think private business should have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, sadly liberals think they know what's best for you and it's illegal to do so, but I don't think healthcare professionals should have this right under any circumstance.

How about reading the actual bill? This doesn't have anything to do with what the actual bill says, but is instead a hypothetical "what if?" scenario. Try reading EMTALA, a federal law, as well, which requires hospital workers to give treatment to anyone with emergency medical conditions.

Again, as I have said before, just because people claim to be Christian or claim that their actions are Christian does not make that true. There is no managing I can do for people that claim to be believers yet don't act like it. All I can say is that no one with a true heart for Christ would want people to die for their sins, because a true Christian would understand Christ died for our sins and we were no better than anyone else before we were saved.

People will always blame the real faith in Christ for atrocoties committed by crazy people that are clearly mislead or are intentionally misleading others. It can't be helped entirely, but I can at least try to clear up misconceptions.

Will gay EMTs be allowed to refuse to help religious people, then? Only makes sense.

The Republican party just seems to get weirder and weirder. This is sick, and I hope alot of Americans stand up against these twisted politicians.
