Going into the game I already knew she would die so I went for Tifa instead.
Also, bigger boobs.

It was sad way back when cause a lot of games were just not as gripping all the time and I still care about that scene a lot T_T

I didn't use her either, but she was absolutely integral to the story up until that point whether you had her in your party or not.
Yeah, her death really got me. I'd never experienced anything like it in videogames up until that point. Still haven't really felt anything quite like it since.
I wonder if you knew that she would die beforehand. She was my healer and I used the heck out of her. I also liked her character. Visually...it was a stunning moment for the time. FMV was a new thing at the time and that scene stood above even the best.
I very much had an emotional trauma upon her death and waited for the entire game for her to be resurrected somehow. I honestly think an opportunity was missed, and I think the ending of FF7 suffers because of it.
Yup, I didn't care. But don't go around criticizing that scene, it's practically the only reason the game is so praised.

There were lots of deaths in previous Final Fantasy games. Especially IV. So maybe it didn't hit me as super hard as someone who's first game was VII. But yeah, it still shocked me.
Lol @OP Gotta love edgy hipsters.

Didn't like her anyway, so no biggie. The scene was pretty well made for its time though. It more or less came outta nowhere, at least for me as an 11 year old kid.

Same for me. Final Fantasy IV had lot of deaths (or almost deaths), so Aeris' death did not have such a great impact from my point of view. Tellah's death was sadder in my opinion. The end of the world and Celes' suicide attempt (Final Fantasy VI) shocked me more than anything.
