Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are you ready for a change in cell phones?

Cell phones has been something that's been changing constantly, but lately it seems were at a halt. with the introduction of the touch screen roughly 10 years ago, or from the introduction of the iphone 1 that popularized the touchscreen in 2007, we've been using pretty much the same phone. Everytime a new phone comes out nown all that's bragged about is: CPU, GPU, RAM, screen and now 64 bit.

Really no ones going to care about the CPU or whats running the phone as long as everythings seamlesss, I couldn't care less about what CPU is in my Galaxy SII then my Galaxy SV, same goes for GPU, were not going to be playing games at Uncharted levels nor do we want to. RAM has been hovering around 1GB to 4 GB for the longest time, which again isn't really something to be impressive about, it's just part of what makes the phone respond seamless, which is a given with cellphones now and days. Now 64 bit has been talked about but really, who cares, it's a big step now that we don't have to halt cellphone technology at 3GB, but were still a couple years away until were actually going to need more the 3GB anyway.

Other minor things like memory which most phones now are 32GB minimum anyway which imo is plenty of memory for regular user. The camera is also minor in my opinion, if people want to take incredibly amazing photos, they probably already got a really nice camera. As long as it takes decent pictures and videos I'm happy.

So that covered the main aspects of the modern day cellphone, iphones and the galaxys have not really offered much out of there phones for many years other then waterproofing which is nice. The main thing I think they should focus their time and efforts on are in the batteries, most phones are lucky to get a full days charge from regular use, even the phone I have now (Galaxy S5) which is only 6 months old, if I barely use it it'll be great, will only be down to 70% by the end of the day, but if I use it a lot it's practically dead by midnight.

Something needs to change with cellphones, I'm ready for the next step.

They'd improve the battery if they stopped making phones thinner.

I am personally really excited for the future of cell phones with more dynamic apps, wireless charging, longer battery life, and overall improvements and integration to life.

I would like it more if people used phones as tools instead of lifelines, though.....

"32GB minimum anyway which imo is plenty of memory"

Pssh, tell that to all the people that have porn on their phones

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I seriously hate that phones are getting stupider commercials.

^^^this.

manufacturers seem to be concentrating on the wrong aspects of phones, Apple and Samsung especially. I don't want my phone to be 10grams lighter or 2mm thinner, I want the damn battery to last longer than 1 or 2 days. I am still on an older gen nokia lumia and I refuse to upgrade until they start concentrating on the battery rather than useless bells and whistles that you never use. So far this year if anything they have gotten worse, Galaxy, iphone, lumias are all abysmal now.

All I want is better battery. I couldn't care less about thickness, but a phone that lasts more than 2 days on a charge would be a godsend.

As far as I'm concerned for every major evolution in technology we will then see the next decade refining, advancing, and tweaking that same tech until the next step is near enough to make that jump. We saw the evolution of mobile phones - we call them smart phones now. I believe the major pivot points to follow will draw us closer and closer toward integration and augmentation. The smart watch appears to be attempts to make people think they need even better or faster connectivity. I've seen design concepts of your forearm becoming the touch screen, then we have other alternatives like Google glass.

Technology sucks man. Its certainly going to be our downfall

there is a change

Well I'm getting a Z3 because IMO PS4 remote play is the best thing to happen to phones since the touch screen. But of course that is a very specialised appeal which doesn't apply to 95% of phone users.

I should have got a Vita of course, but my wife wants a new phone, and the phone is tax deductable, but a Vita isn't.
