Forums - Sony Discussion - Bloodborne Won’t Run@60FPS Because Of Technical Limitations

Quite a bit of Bloodborne news came out in the last couple of days, between the trailer shown at The Game Awards, the other one shown at PlayStation Experience and a following panel with creator Hidetaka Miyazaki.

A particularly interesting tidbit reported by Famitsu is the confirmation from Miyazaki himself that Bloodborne won’t run at 60 FPS, apparently because of technical limitations. Here’s the translation (from Neogaf poster Zefah):

That’s a tough one (laughs). I can only say that it’s a decision we had to make from technical limitations and, unfortunately, we aren’t planning for 60fps. I really hope people won’t pick on me too much about it (laughs)!

The game’s earlier builds were criticized for having choppy frame rate and indeed, I can attest to that having played it at Gamescom 2014. Fortunately, the latest footage (embedded below) shows a much more consistent frame rate, so we can hope that by the time Bloodborne ships in late April From Software will be able to lock it at 30FPS.

The other big reveal is that there will be a procedurally generated dungeon called Chalice. It won’t be necessary to complete the main story, Miyazaki clarified, but it will be there mostly for those folks looking for harder content.

The randomization is done in an interesting way to say the least. What actually happens is that each player will get a different version of the Chalice dungeon, and players will not only be able to tackle a certain version of it together but they will also be able to share it among themselves. Finally, the dungeon demonstrated in the PlayStation Experience keynote was specifically made for this presentation, and players can expect larger and complex dungeons in the final game.

If we can have a 30fps lock I will be damn happy, after all the Souls series isnt exactly known for solid frame rates.

Not surprising considering how good the game looks.

30fps is perfectly fine for the type of game that it is, I'm just happy it looks so damn good.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Yesh, still stuck back in 2008 I see. Real shame.

cause 30fps is more cinematic...right o.o

Agreed. I'm actually quite surprised by how good it looks. It's hardly the pinnacle of 8th gen graphics, but it's a darn sight better than i was expecting from from from From Soft. The great art direction helps a lot of course.

Anyway, i don't really see the need for this thread. It's somewhat of a "no shit sherlock" statement from him.

30fps is ideal to me. 60fps would require unnecessary compromises with other aspects of design.

Well, PS4's a $400 console, not a high end gaming PC, it has its limits.
