Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony proves Vita lives on - 16 Vita games announced at PSX

Well, lots of ports and lots of indies....as someone said, those could count as exclusives for people who don't game on PCs and/or don't have the other platforms that these games are on. I'll get a Vita eventually. Probably 2016 or 2017. Need to get a New 3DS, PSP, XBO & PS4 first

Sony sees their consoles as something much more valuable than their handhelds. This is almost the exact opposite of Nintendo.

Nintendo has developed plenty of fantastic games on Wii U (SSBU, 3D World, DK, MK8, Toad's Treasure, soon Zelda U and X).

Honestly, both the Wii U and 3DS have gotten more quality first-party attention than the PS4 and Vita.

Eh, Sony has also developed plenty of fantastic games on PSV (Uncharted, Killzone, Tearaway, Freedom Wars, Gravity Rush and more). Difference here is that Sony tries to get 3rd party games while Nintendo doesn't.

And it only took an extra year for Wii U to do this....wow, great comparison.

By that logic, the Wii U will always have the advantage due to having the extra year.

But fine, we shall wait another year, and then we'll compare the first 2 years of both. Going by the lineup though, I still think that what the Wii U has out currently beats what Sony will have by the second year.

Except WiiU will be dropped like a bad habit much faster than PS4.

What is more? What is MORE?(No seriously What is MORE? I like to hear all the games pls) Also 3 years, not fair against WiiU's 2 Years....

2 of those were in the first year and a half, in which the Vita's future was still relatively bright. After that, we've gotten quality first-party exclusives at a rate of one or two a year (Tearaway last, Freedom War this year), and Killzone was kinda a disappointment. Really, they seem to have handed the device off to third-party Japanese devs, which is something that is killing it everywhere else.

And what makes you say that? The system will get its 6-7 years of fame, like every Nintendo console, before Nintendo will start developing on the new console. Sure, third-party devs keep Playstation consoles alive for longer, but Nintendo consoles don't have that kind of development advantage. Even the PS3 is getting mostly inferior ports from third-parties at this point. The PS2 was sold for over half a decade after the PS3 came out, but does that mean Sony supported it through software the whole time?

I've learned to enjoy software while it's out, and both Nintendo systems and Sony systems have some great titles during the lifecycle, and peter out after.

5 years, i doubt it be 6-7 years this gen. I do seeX1/PS4 lasting to at least 2020 imo

Suikoden 2, day of the tentacle, grim fandango, and octodad???
That rules!

More games for the system is nice, but it's not what the Vita needs. It needs to create an unique image, to diferenciate itself from its competition. The WiiU has not that many games, but everyone can say things and features WiiU has and not its competition, or even other Nintendo system. The PS4 and XBone, as similar library as they have, have enough exclusive to identify themselves from each other.

The only element Vita has is more japanese-centric games and three or four exclusives Sony made the first two years. The PSP differenciated itself from the DS, and managed to appeal a big audience (I think that the PSP sold better than the PS3 the first years, can someone confirm?). Vita needs personality. I talked about gaming with a friend that doesn't like videogame consoles and handhelds, and it was able to recognise the PSP from the DS, even though he couldn't tell me a title for the system. When I asked him about the Vita, he couldn't even recognise the name at first.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Perhaps. The Wii U has certainly done much worse than Nintendo expected, but I think they have enough in the bank (and are making enough off of software and 3DS sales) that they can afford to make it last for 6-7 years. The PS4 and One will certainly last til 2020 in terms of first-party support, but after that it will be mostly ports (just like almost all consoles that get outpaced in a new gen).

I think Nintendo would want to release a new console at around the same time as Sony and MS, if only so they don't lose out in terms of power and thus third-party devs. As long as their next-gen handheld does well, they can afford to eke out a few extra years.
