Forums - Sony Discussion - So, There's This No Man's Sky Thing Going On, On Twitch...

EDIT: After checking, the Night Under NMS has indeed ended, and it was indeed a concert. With very, very little shown of the actual game, very very very little of which was new. So, yeah. Kinda bummed about that. To be clear, I'm not even saying I think the band's bad or anything like that, I quite like some of their songs. I was just going into the stream expecting something a bit different, and given the air of mystery the event was wrapped around, can't help but think I wasn't the only one. =P Still super excited for the game itself, (still gleeful from the most recent trailer they showed at the PSX,) but the event's secrecy, in my humble opinion at least, kind of didn't help it any.

Some people actually want to listen to the music.

Did they really say that last part? Wow. How ungrateful then. This is probably the biggest attention they're getting and yet they say that?

That brings me back to my original question, though. If this was just a planned concert that got mislabeled on the 'upcoming' thing for Twitch, then okie dokie, no harm, no foul. On the other hand, if this IS the very mysterious, not-elaborated-upon, teased A Night Under NMS event that's kept people guessing since it was initially mentioned, the people who are actually there to listen to the music might be in the minority to the people who were expecting... well... not a concert. Which is just going to turn out badly for the band, because regardless of how good they are, their audience isn't exactly going to be appreciative. =P

To be fair, given it's the biggest attention, he might be trying to come off as charmingly wry, and failing due to sheer nervousness. xP ...that being said, given how clearly his thoughts echoed mine, it struck a particular chord.

Anyway, looked it up, this is indeed apparently the event. xP Oh well. It isn't so much THAT it's a music concert, in all honesty, it's just that the mystery wrapped around it beforehand; as recently as the 2nd, all that was known about it was 'Hello Games would be partnering with a couple of amazing talented contributors,' and even Polygon, who wrote that article, admitted details were scant. If they'd just said, 'Hey, our awesome musical contributors will be performing for you fine peoples over a NMS montage tonight! Yay music! ROCK ON WAYNE!' then that'd be fine. This is sort of like expecting a Final Fantasy 7 remake, only to end up with the Steam version port. <.< Bit of a letdown.

Really? Link, by any chance? While I am disappointed about the outcome, I am still hoping it's just me having missed some announcement on its purpose, i.e. the majority of the people going to see it knowing exactly what they were going to see. Otherwise, can't help but think there might be some Internet... unpleasantness. xP

In essense, the lead guy from the band said something, between two songs, along the lines of, "Well, the stuff we're playing for you tonight is actually old stuff, i.e. stuff that won't really be in the game. The new stuff, the stuff that WILL be in the game, we can't show becaaaause it isn't finished yet. We'd have it finished faster if we didn't have to come to Vegas to play for you, sooo... yeah, sucks.' Paraphrasing. To be fair, I think he was TRYING to come off a pithy, but it came off as a little snide. xP
