Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4: Undertracked by 475.000 at least. 16.6m

Guys, don't take the estimations here so seriously. Every NPD we see disparity so under what circumstances would VGC be spot on?

I am not expecting VGC estimations to be spot on, but they should take Shawn Laydens quote into consideration, and adjust PS4's numbers so they are higher, than Wii's in this point in time.

What actual concrete evidence is there that it is undertracked by at least 475k.... That's what I'm interested in.

The numbers are most likely off, but to throw out a number is just as reckless.

It is purely based on VGC estimations.

After 55 weeks:

Wii: November 25th 2006 - December 08th 2007 = 16,621,029

PS4: November 16th 2013 - November 29th 2014 = 16,146,005

If PS4 is indeed the fastest selling console of all-time, then why is PS4 475.000 behind Wii according to VGC?

Well honestly there's a flaws using VGC estimations... They're just that "estimations". For all we know, PS4 could be only off by 100k.. or the Wii estimations were off. I take the comment from Layden with a grain of salt. I don't even see that comment holding for December, because I don't think the PS4 will outsell the Wii's second December. Also, It's not like Sony came out and gave a solid number on how many consoles sold. If they did, then those numbers could be used to make corrections to the estimations on VGC.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

Wouldn't surprise me, last time VGC was off 900k

How can you possibly make any adjustment based on a vague statement that provides no numbers and no timeframe? this is as bad a statement as MS's "almost 10 million" and then asking MS numbers to be adjusted up based on it.

I saw a "counter" on when he said the sales but when it passes 14M it just dissapeared.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8808363

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9008994

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

So are we saying this is a knee jerk thread. The OP wants to stick a number and way a banner but in reality we really have absolutely no hard values so Layden statement is just as vague as MS almost 10 million statement.

PS4's unparalleled sales are really crushing VGC's tracking calculations. lol

This site has consistently undertracked the PS4 by wider and wider margins over time. I'm interested in where they're messing up, but both the internal Sony data and VGC's estimation methodology are hidden in too much shadow to be sure.

Rest of the world gets bigger every year, but of course we can't be sure.

"Almost 10 millions" has a definite maximum. We know that Xbox One can't have sold more than 10 millions, which was pretty much already known, so no changes here.

Fastest selling homconsole means faster than wii, we have a definite minimum that is higher than VGC's estimation. I don't see where it's vague, and timeframe should always be considered to be the moment an official says it.

There is no timeframe, we also don't know how accurate the Wii numbers were, there was a lot of under and over tracking back then too. yes ps4 is almost certainly undertracked, but with no numbers and no TIMEFRAME for reference and no way to determine where they are undertracked it is most certainly vague.
