Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is this going to be a clear one sided generation for the PS4?

With the recent news of Street Fighters V coming exclusive to PS4 and the fact that Microsoft had a lot going for them in Black Friday and PS4 with the higher price still is looking like it didn't get beat bad (I know we still have to wait for NPD, but this is going off of early preliminary numbers), do you think it's going to be a one sided generation for Sony or is it possible for things to even out like it did last gen or even have a different leader then the PS4.

Could the days of the PS and PS2 be upon us? if not Microsoft has got to start spending money in their favor, they probably could of gotten or made some big exclusives with the $2.5 billion spend on Minecraft, but fuck it it's Microsoft they can buy countries if they wanted to. Nintendo needs to spit out a new console soon, the Wii name is dragging them down they need to get as far away from that as possible, I like to think things could possible be different if it had a name other then Wii U. Sony just needs to keep spitting out games at this point that's all they should be worried about, drop the price when it's possible and bring out games, try for some exclusive third party games and they got it.

Yup. In 2015 the difference between PS4 and Xbox One will be very very big. Why?

1. Consumers mindset. $399 PS4 without any games did very well while competitor had to cut and give games. In Q1 2015 when price is normal people will keep buying PS4 at $399. And Xbox One offer wont be attractive.
2. Look at Q1 2015 PS4 exclusives. They are packed with exclusives. PS4 will do very well.
3. Not counting Wii U because despite having some must own games it will fall short.

At the end of this gen monopoly wont be like PS2 era. But PS4 will have 50% or more market share. Sony will get third party exclusives / console exclusives with little effort.

This makes me wonder because wasn't Capcom company up for sale few months ago and we had threads about who should buy them etc..so why didn't MS buy them and prevented SF5 exclusive from happening and couldve made it reversed. But I guess Minecraft was more important.

Should be a near monopoly for Sony outside of the U.S. and UK so yeah, it should be pretty lopsided. I don't know that Sony will get as many exclusive games like in the ps2 era, as porting games to the X1 should be pretty straightforward, but sales wise Sony will dominate globally...

PS4: 170-180 M
XO: 40-50 M
WiiU: 30-40 M

PS4 will probabily outsell 2:1 both console combinet, so, yep, this is PS4 generation in sales, but in games i prefer Wii U.

Microsoft Probably didn't try to buy them because they are a Japanese company and it is almost impossible for a foreign company to buy them due to Japanese laws.  Also, capcom has been in decline and it is usually a bit of risk in buying declining companies...

Of course not. There is still a large following of Xbox and Nintendo gamers especially for certain game types/franchises. This won't be a gen like when PS2 just set the bar so high. The reasons games were exclusive then was just sheer numbers, the start of this gen is already not the case.

Hmm, pie.

Because they aren't up for sale, the news were written for people that doesn't know anything about what happened. The company had safeties against buyouts, now they don't have anymore. So they are in the same situation as other publishers on the market.

This was kind of hinted at before the PS4 and Xbox One launched. Even back when I was an Xbox fanboy going by the name "Attaboy", the writing was already on the wall. I even made a thread back then.

Nope, they were never up for sale. The only thing that happened was they never renewed their protections on getting bought out. Since it's now possible they could get bought plenty of people started saying who should buy them and what not, but it is very unlikely that anything actually comes of it.

While not actually being for sale, removing the protections against buyouts is usually a signal that they are open to the idea of entering talks on selling.  The fact that nobody has even nibbled at that signal shows how far capcom has fallen.  Gaining the ip's would be great, but having to deal with all those employees who are almost impossible to fire due to local laws makes buying capcom a very risky endeavor...
