Forums - PC Discussion - Looking to upgrade to new laptop

So for shits and giggles I put my 3 year old laptop on kijiji and priced it for what I bought it for 3 years ago, surprisingly I'm actually getting several replies, looking like I might sell it now. So I've been looking around seeing if I can find something that equals or actually beats what I have (my GPU hasn't really worked much so I haven't been able to game with this, minecraft was very difficult to run) but I'm having a hard time finding one. Just wondering if I can get some recommendations of some websites or even laptops from you guys.

I'd like it to be able to play some games doesn't have to be a tank, $500 - $700 is my limit ($700 is the absolute limit taxes shipping everything), I prefer not HP, thats their customer service just completely turned me off on HP, also I'm looking for a 15" - 17" screen, click here for my current laptop specs.

Here's a couple I've been considering

Toshiba

Lenova

Samsung

Out of those three i'd probably go for the Lenovo. Better GPU than Samsung and cheaper. Even though it has less ram and hard drive space. Also prefer smaller screen as that adds less bulk and weight.

I dont know much about gaming pc's. Never had one since I prefer laptops over desktops and gaming laptops are crazy expensive. But I just bought this over black friday, although it has not arrived yet.

Can anybody tell me how well this might perform. I know it wont be ps4/x1 level, but can this at least reach some new games at 720p?

Here is a breakdown of the APU in your laptop. I hope this helps.

Not that familiar with AMD processors. You'll be able to run Valve, Blizzard and indie games quite well. Badly optimized triple AAA zomg graphics games will suffer but they play bad on top end stuff too. So yes, you can probably run some of the newer games at medium-low.

I read what an APU was, but on that article either I read wrong or missed it, but it has no mention on the 6 aditional gpu cores the proccesor has. Do you know how that improves gaming? Also I read that this graphic card has no dedicated video memory and uses the 8gb ram, is that better than less say a 2gb dedicated video memory and 6gb of ram?

So I should not have bought a big screen 1080p tv then :p

o well. It has to be better than my ps3 for sure anyways, so Im happy. My current laptop its at its limit so I needed a new one before a ps4 so I'm content with the result and can wait a bit longer for a ps4.

The Lenovo in your list is hands-down the best thing you have of the three for gaming.

However, if you have a buddy that can help you install windows, this will blow the doors off of any of those :

Nvidia 750M SLI, which makes it about as powerful as a Desktop GTX 750ti (in other words, fairly decent for 1080p gaming!). It also has an SSD, which means it will be a lot faster in Windows than anything with a regular HDD.

If you want something just ready to go and still excellent, these are good options :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-17t-17-17-3-1080P-i5-2-5GHZ-1TB-2GB-GT750M-Blu-ray-AC-WLAN-Backlit-Kb-/221623853107?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item3399cfa033

Oh, and that last HP Envy on the list is so much faster than the one you have that's it's completely ridiculous. You would be blown away by the graphical upgrade alone. A game like Battlefield 4 would run with settings at high, HBAO, turn off AA, and look fantastic on the 750m @ 1080p, while it would be an unplayable slideshow on the 6470 Radeon.
